Pretoria ‘Prayer Drive Thru’ team would like to pray for you!

Volunteers at the Prayer Drive Through in Waverley, Pretoria, ready to pray with passing motorists

If you are driving in Waverley, Pretoria you are invited to pop into the “Prayer Drive Thru” where faith-filled volunteers would love to pray for you.

Co-founder of the roadside ministry, Danie Marx, said that “after eight months of being obedient to be there every Saturday from 9am to 1pm, we can see the fruit of this work – with many testimonies and confirmations streaming in of healing in Jesus’ name”.

He said in July last year, he and his ministry partner Daniel Ducker prayed and asked God how they could shine His light in a more practical way. They came across a video of a prayer drive thru in America and both got “super excited” as they “just knew this was from God”.

They realised that Pieter Human Park in Waverley, where they have been ministering to about 100 recycling workers every Sunday afternoon for the past two years was the perfect spot for the prayer drive thru as people on Cunningham Road could just drive onto a lane on the park and stop at a bus stop 30m from the road.

The signboards say it all

“So, there’s plenty time that we can minister to the people, listen to their prayer requests and allow them time if they want to open up. Most of them are opening up more than we expected at first,” he said.

The Prayer Drive Thru is well signposted. with boards inviting motorists from both directions to turn in for prayer.

“We want to invite everyone that has found themselves in a place of darkness, loneliness — the vulnerable, the sick, the hurt, the broken hearted, the helpless, the thrown-away ones — to come for prayer. We acknowledge we don’t have the answers, but we can introduce them to the Person that has all the answers and ask Him to intervene or to heal,” said Danie.

“You know, it’s training ground where where we all learn to hear God’s voice. We all learn how to pray for people. We all learn how to be humble,” he said.

The prayer team – people from different churches – currently comprises six to seven people who pray in two shifts every Saturday – from 9am to 11am and from 11am to 1pm. Sometimes it gets very busy, so they would welcome more helpers. If you are interested in serving at the Prayer Drive Thru you can call Danie at +27 82 410 4836

Sharing one of their many prayer testimonies, he recalled a motorist who asked for prayer for his father who has prostate cancer and has been in a “semi-coma” in hospital for several months. “We started to pray for him in December — trusting that the Lord will heal him. And about two weeks ago his son came and testified that his dad is back home, and he’s totally out of the coma, and he’s busy recovering from the cancer. That is very good news that motivates us to keep on praying,” said Danie

He also shared about “this lady who didn’t have any work for about four years.  And, the Monday after we prayed for her on the Saturday, she got work — and it’s permanent work. She came back to us two weeks ago to testify about the goodness of God”.

Angelique Prinsloo, a member of the Prayer Drive Thru team said she felt very blessed at the opportunity to be part of something that is God’s will. “He wants His Church to go out and serve and bless people.”

She said it was wonderful to see how the prayer volunteers have grown in praying for others — overcoming their fear of praying and flowing in the gifts of the Spirit. It was also wonderful to see people coming back and giving feedback on answered prayer.

She encouraged people from other churches to come and join them in praying for others. And she encouraged passing motorists to overcome any fear or embarrassment about stopping at the drive thru.

“Come for prayer and you will see your life change. We really trust God for miracles for each person we pray for — for healing and breakthroughs. Come just as you are — the Lord will meet you where you are. You don’t have to be perfect or from a particular church,” she said.
