On Monday March 16 — exactly a year after he set out from Signal Hill — evangelist Reini Coetzee will wheel his wooden cross from Zimbabwe into Mozambique on the next leg of his Crosswalk Africa walk from Cape Town to Jerusalem.
And what memories of God’s supernatural provision in Zimbabwe he will take with him as he says goodbye to unexpected new friends like Pastor Cleverton Kunjuta who joined him on his first day in the country on November 3 last year and has accompanied him ever since, and 80-year-old former Lake Kariba safari lodge pioneer Rob Fynn who has been with them since Harare.
When Reini first entered Zimbabwe he had no idea what lay ahead of him. But Beit Bridge pastor Cleverton approached him that day, hosted him at his home and responded to a prompting from God to arrange a support vehicle and accompany Reini throughout his time in Zimbabwe.

Rob told me in a phone interview that seeing a white man wheeling a cross through Zimbabwe “is not something you normally see”. He hosted Reini and Cleverton in Harare and then volunteered to join the team for the last stage until the border post at Nyamapande. He has helped with driving the support vehicle, wheeling the cross and with ministry to the crowds attracted by the cross.
The border crossing on Monday will be all the sweeter for Reini because he will be accompanied by his friend, Pastor Franquit Jooste of Stellenbosch, who has flown to Zimbabwe to help him wheel the cross through the first stage in Mozambique. Reini says that Franquit also walked “quite a way” with him in the Western Cape during the early part of his long trek.
Reini also plans to mark the end of his time in Zimbabwe with a prophetic action at the border post to activate an impression he said he has received from God that 12 Zimbabwe pastors, evangelists and apostles who were inspired by his cross walk will continue to work together to reach out to people in the country.

He said his fondest memories of Zimbabwe is the many humble people who are open to the Gospel. “There is a great harvest in Zimbabwe,” he said.
Reini said he is excited to discover what God has prepared for his time in Mozambique where he will be met by people and a support vehicle arranged through missionaries he met during a divine appointment on the road in SA.
