South African evangelist Reini Coetzee is embarking on another epic cross walk — this time wheeling a wooden cross 10 000km from Cape Town to Jerusalem, through nine African nations.
He will depart at 5am on Friday March 14, from Signal Hill, the starting point of his last two big cross walks — from Cape Town to Musina in 2020-2021 and from Cape Town to Windhoek in 2023. After both of those missions, Reini, who started walking with a cross in 2016, believed his cross walking days were over and that he would focus on his Gospel outreach ministry, Revelation Ministries

But he said that during a 7-day fast in December, God “dropped gently into my spirit” a call to cross walk to Israel. Before that he had had two “confirmations” about walking with the cross again but had not anticipated such a major walk. He said a few hours after sensing God’s instruction: “I got such a fright because the reality kicked in and I realised how far this is — almost 10,000 kilometres.”
Unlike his previous big cross walks, Reini will be setting out solo, with just the cross in his hands and a rucksack on his back. But he believes God will provide people to join him on stretches of the walk, which he expects to take 18 months to two years. He believes God has given him a “double portion” of faith for provision for the mission and is comforted that he is covered by a team of 12 intercessors. He said that supporters have already lined up people who will connect with him in the nations he will traverse. On his way to Jerusalem, which he calls “the capital city of the world”, he will cross SA, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan, and Egypt, proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus every step of the way.
The mission of Reini’s Cross Walk Africa journey is “to seek the lost at all costs” and “to bring hope, peace, and the love of Christ to Africa through the power of the cross”.

He said that during his previous big walks he has found that the cross he wheels is a symbol of hope to many people. “And I’m sure, through Africa, it’s going to be the same case. I believe I’m also going out to reclaim the ground that the enemy has stolen, tand even to enlarge the territory of the Kingdom of Heaven.”
Expressing a sense of urgency for the mission, he said: “I believe there’s there’s an end time harvest out there. And where we are at is like in a rugby match or a soccer match. We’re in injury time now.”
“I know that the Lord is forever going to change my life and the lives of people that I touch. Jesus is going to use me as his instrument and I’m going to touch lives right through Africa.
“Africa shall be saved!” he said.
