‘SA Belongs to Jesus’ campaign uniting Christians in prayer for elections

JOIN THE SA BELONGS TO JESUS NOW BY JOINING THE CAMPAIGN ON ‘TELEGRAM’

“If ever we needed to pray for an election, this is it,” said Advocate Richard Crompton, the administrator of SA Belongs to Jesus, a national pre-election prayer campaign on Telegram.

Crompton, who leads Word of Faith Christian Centre in Gqeberha, urged Christians throughout SA to join the campaign by searching for the SA Belongs to Jesus group on Telegram and signing up.

SA Belongs to Jesus posts three prayers a day on the theme of unifying the Church in praying for godly and capable government; for the elections on May 29; for revival in SA; and for a blessed and righteous nation.

Explaining the group’s passion for praying for these elections Crompton said: “We believe God has a plan and a purpose for South Africa – that He wants to bring a government that cares about the people, is unselfish and wants to take the country forward.”

“Secondly, from a secular viewpoint. what we see in the polls shows that for the first time in our lifetimes, we really don’t know what government we are going to end up with. It is a massive turning point and so, if ever we needed to pray for an election, this is it.”

All members of the group are encouraged to send in prayers for sharing on the Telegram channel. You can do so by recording an approximately 2-minute voice note in which you introduce yourself, read a Scripture of your choice and say your prayer. Then send your voice note to 067 003 5623.

Please note that the group adheres to the following guidelines: it is apolitical; there will be no criticism of the government; no criticism of a specific political party; no self-promotion; only multi-network, city or national prayer events will be advertised; and prophetic words from recognised prophets all over South Africa will be shared.

The campaign, which currently has 872 subscribers, was launched on September 1 last year. In January SA Belongs to Jesus hosted a 36-hours, three-day prayer and fasting event at Word of Faith, Praise and worship leaders from various churches helped out and both local and national leaders participated. Thousands of people were reached via live streaming.

“The presence of the Lord was so strong, especially on the second day,” he said. “Basically when we ran out of strength to pray, we sang, and when we ran out of strength to sing, we prayed.”

Crompton said they will be hosting a similar campaign just before the elections – on May 21 to 23 — praying and worshiping from 9am to 9pm each day. They are hoping for Christians from around the country to participate at the venue and online.
