SA Christians join in national declaration calling for harmonious relations with Israel

Attendees at a national prayer rally at the City of Mercy church in Katlehong, Johannesburg in support of normalising SA’s relations with the State of Israel

Christians from all over the country gathered at City of Mercy church in Katlehong, Johannesburg on Monday to make a national declaration calling for a normalisation of relations between South Africa and Israel.

The event was the culmination of a campaign initiated by South African Friends of Israel (SAFI) that began on September 29 with the launch of the Tshwane-Jerusalem Declaration outside the Israeli Embassy in Pretoria. Since then the declaration has travelled to local prayer gatherings throughout the country.

SAFI spokesman Bafana Modise told Gateway News that more than 700 youths and leaders attended Monday’s mass prayer rally in Katlehong.

He said a “full house of South Africans” declared that SA needs to normalise relations with Israel and that the government needs to protect citizens’ rights of opinion, conscience and association.

“The event was amazing and well attended and shows that South Africa has reaffirmed its support for Israel. And, indeed, we are not party to the ANC and government policy of hostility against the State of Israel,” he said.
