Commending Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana on his budget in Parliament last week, ACDP MP Steve Swart urged the minister “to walk closely with God, like your namesake” and “to seek His solutions”.
In the video clips on this page, Swart welcomes the stabilisation of national debt for the first time in 17 years and withdrawal of proposed tax hikes due to improved tax collection.
He also addresses areas needing improvement, including policy changes to promote private sector investment and job creation; further improvement needed in tax collection; illicit trade in alcohol and tobacco products which cost the country billions; more aggressive taxation of the online gambling industry that profits off the poorest of the poor; recovery of ill-gotten gains from state corruption sitting in foreign bank accounts; and improved local service delivery, security and education to meet taxpayers’ expectations.
