[notice]Musings around children’s ministry. [/notice]And he told them a parable: “Look at the fig tree, and all the trees. As soon as they come out in leaf, you see for yourselves and know that the summer is already near. So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near. — Luke 21:29-30 ESV
I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. — John 16:33
If anyone out there is like me then change or transition is a threatening term. As I am changing seasons I has been slightly entertaining (not for me), that my mentor’s favourite word is ‘TRANSITION’ and that he loves change. I have been known to ‘bury my head in the sand’ to avoid changing.
In this time of change for me, the Lord has been talking to me about time(s). The Lord has worked it into creation that things change. Seasons are natural and inevitable (even if I find them uncomfortable). However I have taken heart in Christ’s reassuring words to us in the face of transition.
When Jesus prepared His disciples for what was ahead, he didn’t sugar coat it, but He assured His “words will never disappear” (verse 33). My Life Application study Bible puts it this way, “Rather than being terrified by what is happening in our world, we should confidently await Christ’s return to bring justice and restoration to His people”.
My exhortation is short and sweet this week. Be of good courage because He has overcome the world. We can confidently face anything that is thrown at us because He has said we can. Don’t forget, everything else will pass away…except His words. Take heart!
