A public hearing into TopTV’s latest application to launch three 24 hours pornographic television channels will be held in Johannesburg on Thursday, the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) says in a notice released today.
Organisations that will present submissions at the hearing at Icasa’s offices in Sandton are the Family Policy Institute, the African Christian Democratic Party, the Free Society Institute, Doctors For Life, Africa Christian Action, the South African Society for Sexuality Education, Shofar Christian Church, Free Society Institute, Active for Jesus/ WoomaNetRadio and the Free Society Institute.
The hearing will start at 9:00 and is scheduled to close at 15:20.
On Digital Media, which is broadcasting as TopTV, filed a new application with the regulator earlier this year after ICASA blocked the broadcaster from launching porn channels in 2012.
The three channels Top TV has applied for are Playboy TV, Desire TV and Private Spice.
Top TV went into business rescue in November 2012. According to the broadcaster, the porn channels alone will not be enough for them to stay afloat and they will need outside investment to keep going. According to media reports three parties have expressed interest in investing in the broadcaster.
