In a major diplomatic breakthrough, Hamas has agreed to a peace plan brokered by President Donald Trump that will end the two-year war in Gaza and secure the return of hostages taken during the Oct. 7, 2023, attacks on Israel.

Trump announced the agreement on Truth Social, writing: “I am very proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan. This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace.” He added, “This is a GREAT Day for the Arab and Muslim World, Israel, all surrounding Nations, and the United States of America… BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS!”

Photos from the negotiation room in Sharm el-Sheikh showed officials embracing after reaching the historic accord. Retired General Nitzan Alon was seen shaking hands with Qatar’s Prime Minister Al-Thani, while Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya appeared smiling beside other delegates. Israeli sources told Fox News preparations were underway for an official signing ceremony in Egypt as early as Thursday.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu celebrated the announcement, saying: “With God’s help, we will bring them all home.” He added, “A great day for Israel. Tomorrow I will convene the government to approve the agreement and bring all our dear hostages home… I thank from the bottom of my heart President Trump and his team for mobilizing for this sacred mission of freeing our hostages.”

Hamas also released a statement confirming its acceptance of the proposal “with the aim of ending the war of extermination against our Palestinian people and the withdrawal of the occupation from the Gaza Strip.” The group thanked the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, and “US President Donald Trump for his efforts to bring about a final end to the war and the full withdrawal of the occupation.”

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Dr Majed al-Ansari stated on X: “An agreement was reached tonight on all terms and mechanisms for implementing the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, which will lead to stopping the war, releasing Israeli detainees and Palestinian prisoners, and allowing aid to enter.”

According to Israeli officials, the 48 remaining hostages, including 21 believed to be alive, are expected to be released within 72 hours. Hamas reportedly agreed to much of the 20-point plan approved by Israel last week, which includes full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza in exchange for the hostages’ return, amnesty for disarmed militants, and the release of 1,950 Palestinian prisoners.

Under the plan, Gaza will be administered temporarily by a technocratic Palestinian committee overseen by an international “Board of Peace” chaired by Trump and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. Trump previously warned that if Hamas rejected the proposal, the U.S. would back Israel’s full military operation in Gaza.

The Hostages’ Families Forum released a statement expressing “deep gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump and his team for the leadership and determination that led to this historic breakthrough… We will not rest or be quiet until the return of the last hostage. We will bring them back. We will rise.”
