Unplug from addictions and plug into true power source — Vivienne Schultz

A monthly column by social entrepreneur and A2B Transformation Group founder Vivienne Schultz.

Addiction causes decay of human volition. Addiction cleans out wallets and collapses human potential into uselessness.

It happens so easily. Any habitual behaviour that a human perpetuates, soon becomes a compulsion and eventually an obsessive addiction.

Like the analogy of frogs slowly heating up in a pot of water until cooked, Christians who become addicted to earthly urges, don’t realise they simultaneously forfeit the power of their will and sadly end up wasting their precious life, missing the dominium state that they were created for.

Addiction compromises their mental health which means they mess up their most crucial body part – their brain, by performing their soulless repetitive behaviours or mental acts. Instead, that brain is an intelligent engine meant to actively power them up and interconnect with their everlasting Power source to move mountains.

Their earthly thoughts become recurrent and persistent and their urges and  impulses intrude into the social and spiritual wellbeing of their extended family.  Anxiety or distress becomes their new norm.

The individual attempts to ignore or suppress such thoughts, urges, or images, or to neutralise them with some other thought or action (i.e., by performing a compulsion), eventually leading to more addictions such as synthetic drugs or alcohol.

Compulsions and obsessions cause more rigidity, and rule us, resulting in senseless, unconscious mental acts. The mental disorder creates a multiplier effect of disempowerment, anxiety and distress to the individual and loved ones, youngsters and vulnerable people in their wake. We no longer take time to exercise and use our brain muscle in our God-given manner — to bring hope, live out our faith and love practically!

What addictions are we talking about, you may ask? Drugs, nicotine, alcohol, pills, gambling, ….? Yes, they are the overt destructors, with hundreds of thousands of humans lying in the gutters of life.

Shockingly, we all have been overstimulating our primary impulses on a level that no one could foresee!

TV, technology, social media and information-obsessed! No more headspace for our Maker!

Unplug. Unplug!

Does this mean that every human obsessed with technology is slowly becoming OCD? Does this mean that we as Christians are slowly losing our Godly power? My guess is – yes!

On a national level our organisation daily deals with humans from all walks of life losing control over their lives and succumbing to panic disorders. In desperation for power, they plug in without resistance into the social construct’s snares of addictions and dependencies.

Even  young children can see the truth! They peep at the multimedia with their innocent eyes and observe how it hardwires their parents, then follow their example and become ensnared in the cycle.

It’s insanity! Whereas we all know of the main power source — the only Power we can depend on!

Urgently unplug! Unplug every single addiction before any one prophesies once more: “Once an addict, always an addict”! We are stepping on very dangerous ground.

Plug in to God and to Him alone, and keep singing daily!

“I will serve no foreign God
NoR any other treasure
For you are my heart’s desire
The Spirit without measure
Unto Your name I will bring my sacrifice”

How difficult is it really!!…to become full again: power-full and purpose-full…just by choosing the right power source!
