Urgent call to pray, fast for SA cities ahead of elections

Janet Brann-Hollis of SA Back to God this week released an urgent prophetic call to pray and fast for South Africa’s cities ahead of the local government elections in November.

She said that while praying over concerns about possible post-election unrest driven by forces opposed to change she had two visions concerning cities.

In the first vision she saw that some cities had surrendered to dark and destructive influences. She said these cities included Johannesburg, Bloemfontein, Carltonville, Ekurhuleni, eThekwini, Mitchells Plain and Gqeberha.

In the second, she saw many angels released into the cities to dismantle spiritual strongholds in areas of governance, infrastructure, utilities and other strategic sectors. She said she believed these angelic interventions would come about in response to sustained prayer and fasting by God’s people.

Citing Isaiah 58 she urged intercessors to pray for leaders who would govern with justice, wisdom and righteousness. She also emphasised a need to repent for personal and corporate sins, including speaking negatively over cities, allowing corruption and greed, tolerating immorality and spiritual compromise, a lukewarm Church and failing to stand in the gap through prayer.

She said the call to fast and pray was for all believers — not just those in troubled cities. The speaker emphasised that the responsibility for praying for South Africa’s cities does not belong only to those who live in troubled areas. She urged prayer movements to work together to stand in the gap for cities ahead of the elections and to believe God for turning the cities into places of hope and blessing.
