Michael Moser, founder of the Emonti School of Ministry in East London shares a personal testimony of transformation and an invitation to embark on a journey of servant-leadership equipping to live like Jesus
What if Jesus is inviting you to more? What if the miracles of the Bible are still available, and God is just waiting for someone to step out and say yes? Why not you?
They called him gifted: two years ahead of his peers in school and still the top of his class. He was a top athlete, a classically trained multi-instrumentalist musician, and born to a wealthy family in America. He had it all. But now it was 10pm and he was alone. He was sitting on the edge of his bed with that old familiar question: what was it all for? Why did everything feel hollow? Again, and again every achievement would promise potential, but every accolade would prove pointless.
His mind began to rewind. When was the last time he experienced something of true significance: something that didn’t dissolve like candy floss as soon as he took hold of it? He closed his eyes as years of memories passed by in seconds. Instantly that 21-year-old varsity student was gone, and he was 14 again, sitting at a Christian youth conference listening to a speaker extolling them to pick up their cross and follow Jesus. It sounded ridiculous — it sounded radical — but that 14-year-old boy’s heart was burning. Soon the speaker invited everyone who wanted to follow Jesus, no matter the cost, to stand up and make that declaration. Immediately, this boy stood to his feet, threw up his hands and shouted as loud as he could: “JESUS, I WANT THE CROSS!!”
Just as quickly as the memory came, it left. The 14-year-old boy disappeared as the 21-year-old opened his eyes. Every accomplishment since then felt so lifeless and empty. That moment was still echoing in his heart seven years later. He wanted that again.
Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry
The young man was me. I ended up leaving my life behind and moving to Redding, California to attend Bethel’s School of Supernatural Ministry. I didn’t really know anything about the school. I had just heard that God was there, and miracles were happening. It changed my life forever.
It wasn’t a Bible school, although study of Scripture was a huge part of it. It was centered around the presence of the Lord and experiencing Him. It was there that I began to understand the nature of God. I got to know Him as the active and present King that He really is rather than the passive and distant ruler I thought He was. I came to know Him as a loving and kind Father rather than a harsh and rigid taskmaster. I got to see Him flow through me to physically heal dozens, if not hundreds of people, and I began to understand that the resurrection of Christ is not just a great story, but the very power that delivers us from sickness and death to life and victory.
Attending the school for multiple years completely anchored me into this new normal. I was no longer tossed back and forth, but my relationship with God became the one constant and unshaken thing in life. I was completely transformed, a new creation, deeply rooted and never to shrink back or whither again.
Move to South Africa
After I had finished, I moved to South Africa to work as a youth pastor for a couple of years. I longed to see a presence-centered, fulltime supernatural environment established here. To grant a student visa for a single year of study at Bethel, the US government requires a South African to have R200 000+ in their bank account. It’s not an option for most people. South Africa needed its own school!

Later, on my return home, the Lord invited me to help start a school in East London. I uprooted my life again and moved back to South Africa with my wife and young children. I am now leading a team of pastors and leaders, some of whom attended Bethel’s School of Supernatural Ministry, to recreate that school structure and environment here at Emonti School of Ministry. We believe that everyone is just one encounter with God away from changing the world, and we aim to develop servant leaders who represent Jesus in the fullness of His love and power. I have raised funds to lower the school fees and even provide bursaries to make the school accessible to as many people as possible.
Partnering with local churches
We are partnering with many other churches in this region to equip, train, and empower their people to live like Jesus. While they attend Emonti during the week, we want our students to continue attending and serving their local church. We are all the Body of Christ!
In the months I have been here, I have heard so many negative things spoken over the Eastern Cape. However, the Lord is speaking something different. He is not hopeless or despondent. In fact, it’s the least likely people and places that He loves to use the most! We are once again picking up our cross to follow the invitation of the Lord, and we believe this school will be an ignition point for the fires of revival that will break out across the entire region.
