The wife of a Minnesota missionary who was killed in Angola on October 25 has been arrested, suspected of murder, according to their home church.
Beau Shroyer, who was a member of the Lakes Area Vineyard Church in Minnesota, relocated his family to Angola in 2021 and was serving there with SIM USA, a ministry with a base there.
In a letter to the congregation, the church has shared “disbelief” that his wife, Jackie, is facing murder charges. She was arrested last Friday, but no other details have been released at this time.
According to NY Daily News, Pastor Troy Easton wrote in a statement to inform the community about the “unimaginable” recent developments in the shocking story.
“Wherever you are and whatever you’re doing, I’m going to ask you to sit down, take a deep breath and remember that God is our ever-present help in times of trouble,” Easton began.
“Today, our grief and sadness has deepened immeasurably as we’ve learned that his wife, Jackie Shroyer, has been arrested in connection with his death,” the pastor continued, adding he was still in shock and didn’t even have the words to express his disbelief.
In a separate letter to the community, SIM USA president Randy Fairman said the Shroyers were some of the first missionaries to begin service with SIM USA after the Covid lockdowns eased.
“They have brought a faithful, energetic, growing, loving aroma of Christ into our family.”
SIM says the family are being well cared for.
Angola has a reputation as being a dangerous place to visit. Demonstrations and civil unrest are common, particularly in Cabinda, Lunda Norte and Lunda Sul. Protests can turn violent. Angola also has a high crime rate.
Common crimes range from petty theft to armed robbery and carjacking. The risk of violent crime is much higher at night.
