You can’t have your cake and eat it — Angus Buchan

The Lord Jesus Christ, when He was addressing the sons of Zebedee, James and John, who said that they wanted to sit one on the left-hand side and one on the right-hand side when Jesus goes back to glory, Jesus asked them a question in Mark 10:38, He says: “Do you know what you ask, are you able to drink the cup that I drink and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?” Then of course we look at Matthew 16:24 and Jesus says that “if anyone wants to come after me, he must deny himself, take up his cross and follow me.“

When we put up our hand and say: “Lord, we are going to follow you”, there is always a cost involved. I heard someone say once that if your faith costs you nothing, then your faith is worth nothing. It cost Jesus Christ His life and it ultimately cost the disciples their lives as well, and even today it is costing lives.

I am going to meet with a young lady today, I am very excited about it. She was born into a Muslim family, but as a schoolgirl she met Jesus Christ as her Lord and Saviour, and we thank the Lord once again for the Gideons and the amazing work they are doing, as she was given a little Gideon Bible, she kept it under her pillow. One day her father, who was a devout Muslim, found it, and immediately chucked her out of the house and disowned her. She paid a price, but she never recanted, she never denied the Lord Jesus Christ, she never went back. Her father said: “You can come home if you deny Him.” She would not do it.

After many many years, the Christians helped her as a school girl, and because of her lifestyle, eventually her father came to Christ and her mother came to Christ and her siblings came to Christ, and today I believe she is teaching the Bible, she’s been to Bible College.

You see, folks, she paid an ultimate price, she was totally excluded from her family and friends, but Jesus has rewarded her tenfold, in fact a hundred fold.

Today, check your heart, ask yourself a question, are you prepared to pay the price that is required to be a follower of Jesus Christ?
