Kingfisher FM awarded funding for new studios

Kingfisher FM staff celebrate good news of their MDDA grant award

Christian community radio station Kingfisher FM received the good news this week that the South Africa Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA) has awarded it grant funding of R2 663 500 for two new studios and technical equipment.

The good news arrived at a time that the Nelson Mandela Bay-based station is in the throes of a move from Main Rd, Walmer to much larger premises at St George’s Corner, Park Drive.

In a statement Kingfisher station manager Michele Lourens says the community station is experiencing a season of great favour and that the application process was “gruelling”.

Subsequent to the receipt of Kingfisher’s application a MDDA team visited the station to investigate the needs and concluded that it was in dire need of an update. They commended Michele on the brilliant paperwork that had been submitted and all in all the visit was a great success. However, the Kingfisher team then had to wait for approval from the MDDA Board and the news which was received this week was met with much jubilation.

“The team has grown and a vision is being achieved. In true community style, many organisations have stretched out a helping hand to us as we face this move,” says the station in a press release

“Kingfisher FM has just celebrated a 26th Birthday and the team gives God all the glory for the years on air. To serve our Lord Jesus Christ and the people of Nelson Mandela Bay and beyond is our mandate and privilege. We invite everyone to celebrate this victory with us!”
