Latest season of ‘The Chosen’ hitting SA big screen

South African moviegoers will have an opportunity to view the first two episodes of the hit historical series based on the life of Jesus, The Chosen, when it screens at Nu Metro cinemas nationwide from Thursday March 28.

The season 3 finale ended with high drama as Jesus miraculously fed a multitude, walked on water and calmed a storm. According to the season 4 synopsis: “The enemies of Jesus close in while His followers struggle to keep up, leaving Him to carry the burden alone.”

Speaking before last year’s US theatre release, director Dale Jenkins said: “This season is one where you really do want to watch it on the big screen. The setting is getting bigger. We’re getting closer to Jerusalem. As we get closer to Holy Week, the themes are bigger. We want you to see this on the big screen with the surround sound and have an immersive experience with it.”

The Chosen, starring Jonathan Roumie as Jesus, is one of the most-watched shows globally. Starting as a crowd-funded project it became the number 1 crowd-funded TV series of all time with over 200 million views to date across multiple streaming platforms.

Earlier this month, Jenkins announced that because of financial and legal challenges the much-anticipated streaming release of season four has been delayed.
