Synopsis:
The Jungle Book is a more dramatic, 2016 live-action remake of Disney’s 1967 cartoon classic about an Indian boy raised by wolves who comes into conflict with an evil tiger that wants to kill the little “man cub”. The Jungle Book is an instant family classic with lots of exciting action, wonderful special effects, a superb script, excellent performances, funny subplots, and a Proto-Christian message that disobeying the natural moral law brings death and places everyone in danger. Some intense action warrants caution for younger children.

Dove Review:
The Jungle Book (2016) is an amazing adventure. The film is loaded with talking animals that are vicious and funny and a young, courageous boy named Mowgli (Neel Sethi). The voice talent includes Bill Murray as the comedic bear, Baloo; Idris Elba as Shere Khan, the evil tiger; and Scarlett Johansson as the sly snake, Kaa. Mowgli is friends with the wolves, and their motto is, “The strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack.” But Shere Khan doesn’t like them and especially wants to take out the “man cub,” Mowgli. With Bagheera (Ben Kingsley) and others like Baloo helping him, Mowgli has a real chance to survive and defeat Shere Khan.

The movie features terrific jungle scenes, action, and funny moments, not to mention a couple of songs (Remember Bare Necessities?). Due to a few scary moments from the predator animals (although not gratuitous), not to mention a few jump scenes, we are awarding the film our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal for ages 12-plus. – www.dove.org
