Christian groups in Pretoria and Cape Town are uniting to stage major National Day of Prayer events on Pentecost Sunday, May 19, which is also the Global Day of Prayer — a day in which believers around the globe join in prayer for the world after 10 days of prayer for their nations starting on Ascension Day.

Organisers of the Pretoria event at the Shoshanguve TUT Stadium from 1pm to 5pm are planning to have about 15 000 people at the event which aims to honour the Lord Jesus as a nation and to cry out to God to have mercy, said Pastor Marcel Versveld, a member of the planning committee. The SA Christian Leaders Indaba, SA Council of Churches, The Evangelical Alliance of SA, Africa Enterprise, Turn2God and Kairos Ministries are jointly hosting the event.

Key national leaders will lead the prayers for restoration of the Body of Christ, family, the nation, the Government and justice, business and economics, arts and culture, communication and media,  and science and technology. Worship will be led by Louis Brits. More information can be obtained by calling 012 997 5601.

In Cape Town a National Day or Prayer event in the  Dromedaris Room at the Good Hope Centre from 2pm to 4pm  is being organised by Cape Town Transformation, CCFm, Global Day of Prayer, Jericho Walls, Christian Chamber of Commerce, Prayer Mushroom Ministry and Friends From Abroad.

The Global Day or Prayer will be incorporated into the programme. Anybody who can help with transporting people who cannot come by car or train should call Helen contact or Mmathapelo on 0827394900.
