New platform launched to promote Afrikaans praise, worship music

A group of leading Afrikaans praise and worship leaders, songwriters and more have collaborated to create “Nuwe Lof”, a platform that aims to make new, Spirit-inspired, easy-to-sing Afrikaans praise and worship songs available worldwide.

For a long time Retief Burger and Louis Brittz have been talking about getting such music out to Afrikaans-speaking believers. The goal of Nuwe Lof is to empower churches and groups to sing these songs together, says Nuwe Lof in a press release.

A large group of songwriters participated in the first round of the initiative. Some of them are Louis Brittz, Anique Jordaan, Franco Gagiano, Ferreira Marais, Jattie de Beer, Leza Liversage (van Pletsen), Deon Meiring, Neil Büchner, Retief Burger, Christelle Combrink, Gillaume and René Louw, Gerrit van Vuuren (Stass van Onbeskaamd), , Helmut Meijer and Hennie Maritz.

More Afrikaans composers will be invited to join the initiative to expand the content.

“We believe that every generation has a new song that must ascend to God’s throne in its mother tongue,” says Louis, “We complement each other, complete each other’s sentences and together make sure that the songs are suitable for congregational use.”

Explaining how Nuwe Lof works, Retief says: “Each song that we make available must also be easily accompanied in congregations. That is why aids have been created such as chord sheets, melody line sheet music (‘lead sheets’), lyrics, videos and accompanying tracks (‘tracks’) to help congregations with the singing and playing of it.”

All of the songs and tools can be downloaded from the website www.Nuwelof.co.za. However, all the songs are also available on digital platforms to be downloaded or streamed. The plan is to continually develop content and tools as funds become available.

Nuwe Lof is a non-profit organisation and costs are currently carried by donors. Tracks are sold on the website for a nominal fee to fund future recordings. Sponsorships are welcome to help preserve and grow Afrikaans praise and worship. People who wise to partner with Nuwe Lof can contact them at info@nuwelof.co.za
