WATCH: ‘Desert’ time ends as Retief Burger releases new single, ‘Net Een Naam’

South African Christian musician, songwriter and pastor Retief Burger released a brand new single, Net Eeen Naam, today — his first release since April last year.

He shares in a recorded media release that his new song was born from a desert place in his songwriting life in which nothing came for months and he asked himself multiple times “how do I do this now again”? Then suddenly it flowed and Net Een Naam was written. The song and the lyrics point to “the one and only name we can keep our eyes on” and “the only name we can call ourselves to worship”, he says.

In an interview with CCFM 107.5 today he says that at the start of this year he faced a big personal ordeal when he suddenly had to undergo surgery to remove a tumour on his pituitary gland — an endocrine gland which is attached to the brain stem.

In his recorded media release, Retief says: “At some point I quote, basically the words of David when he says: ‘Oh my soul, hope in God, aka keep your eyes on God — come on my knees, come and bow before Him and trust in Him.

“And that’s my prayer for you as well as you listen to this — that it will encourage you, invite you and exhort you to bow before the only one name, the only worthy name of all our trust, all our devotion and all our worship — the name of Jesus.”

Retief is a full time pastor at Every Nation church in Elardus park, Pretoria. He serves with his wife, Isabella and they have three young children. According to a media release he is taking a three month sabbatical from this month.
