Conference aims to bring solutions for orphans, vulnerable children

Open Home Africa is hosting a one-day conference on March 26 where speakers will discuss struggles faced by vulnerable children, personal experiences of adoptive and foster parents, how to start and orphan care ministry and more.

The event at the Antioch Bible Church in Roodepoort, Johannesburg from 8.30am to 3.30pm is aimed at bringing solutions to those who can’t defend themselves, says Kgaugelo Pule co-founder of Open Home Africa.

In an invitation to the conference she says: “Statistics show that there are approximately four million orphans in South Africa. The Covid pandemic has brought about much poverty and desperation and the speculation is that things will get worse. Social workers predict that the number of abandoned or neglected children will increase. What then shall we do as Christians about this?

“James says: “Pure and undefiled religion before God the Father is this: to look afterorphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself unstained from the world” — James 1:27. This is a mandate, so how do we in this day and age respond?”

She says the conference is aimed at church leaders or ministry workers who are interested in starting an orphan care ministry or people who are interested in adopting, fostering or opening up their home as a place of safety.
