Call for action at well-attended 40th KwaSizabantu Mission conference

By Gerda Potgieter

Many Christian leaders from across Africa and the world attended the 40th ministers’ conference at KwaSizabantu Mission at Kranskop, KwaZulu-Natal from March 6 to 8.

Rev Erlo Stegen, founder of the mission, who has opened the conference each year since he started it 40 years ago, was not able to do so this year due to illness. But a video of one of his previous sermons was played on big screens and proved highly relevant to the conference theme “Commissioned by God”.

In his message, Rev Erlo said the world has enough heroes but not enough doers. Christian leaders should not wait to build the Kingdom but should get into it immediately. He said Jesus was on Earth to make disciples of all nations and that all powers have been given to Him. He told the audience they should not exclude themselves from that as they also have the commission to make disciples for the Lord. They should stop waiting and jump into action, he siad.

Conference speakers were Canon Hamilton Mbatha. vicar-general of the Anglican Diocese of Zululand; Dr Eva Seobi, founder of Women Alive; Michael Swain, executive director of Freedom of Religion South Africa; Dr Elliot Sithole, the Bible Society; Dr Peter Hammond, founder of Frontline Fellowship; Rev A L Nzima, pastor of Vision Baptist Church, Mandeni; Pastor Hans Koller from Romaniaand Pastor Sipho J Mfusi of the Reformed Zionist Church in Christ.

During the three days of the conference the audience was entertained by the KwaSizabantu choir, the Domino Servite School choir, the youth choir, and the men’s choir. The groups gave outstanding performances, unique in their own way.

A trumpet symbol which formed part of the invitation to the conference was reminiscent of danger alarms raised by watchmen in Israel in Bible times. Indeed, there are many spiritual perils in these days and it is truly not the time for heroes but a time to act.

Here is what some attendees had to say about the conference:

“It was an inspiring event and exceptionally well-organised. It was a divine appointment that we should be here. I will definitely attend the Ministers’ Conference again in the future, and I can definitely recommend it to anybody that is in leadership. It is inspiring and empowering. It is also an opportunity for fellowship and networking.” — Cindy Ludick, Testimony Family Church, Howick

“I’ve been waiting for almost 10 years to attend this conference, I prayed about it, and God is faithful. It was overwhelming, would probably be the correct word, and I am so blessed to be finally making it here. I have been familiar with the KwaSizabantu Ministry since I was 12 when Rev Stegen came to California in my hometown and did a two-day conference. It was fascinating. I got saved at age 17, and two years later, I went on a missionary trip, and since then, I wanted to come here.” — David Morozov, Sacramento, California

“I really enjoy being here. It is always a joy to come here, and the service was really a blessing to us. The way Rev Stegen was talking about how we must ascent — I realised that this is a true mission. The way the story was put, it was alive — it was a life story. It made it clear that we should not wait. The love of Jesus is here at KwaSizabantu. I would like for people to come here and experience the love of the Lord here. When you come here, you really see a good narrative.” — Ps Matthews Lecheko, Apostolic Faith Mission, Matatiele

“It was so wonderful to be here again, the auditorium and the singing. What was absolutely amazing this time was the choir. I heard the choir many times before, but this time it was outstanding. The message (of Rev Erlo Stegen) was timeless. Everything was excellent, the beauty of the service, a full auditorium and especially the reason why we are here — to be encouraged and strengthened before we go home again.” — Ps Leo Baan, Swaziland
