God recently intervened dramatically in a dangerous situation that arose when drug dealers in Sierra Leone began to attack members of a Christian ministry team who were harming their business by winning addicts to Jesus.
This good news was sent to Gateway News this week by Suzanne Pillans of Step Out in Faith Ministry in Oxfordshire, England, who has been partnering with Pastor Emmanuel Bobor in Sierra Leone in his outreach to young people addicted to a killer drug called kush. Their teamwork began in 2024 when Emmanuel went to addicts with Gospel messages which Suzanne had recorded in South Africa.
Suzanne reports that the problem with the drug bosses began after Emmanuel and associate pastors visited addicts “with some food, drink and clothing and to share the good news of Jesus, then to invite them to receive Jesus as Lord as the only one who could truly free them from their addiction”. She says many addicts responded to Jesus and were set free. Then they attended a sewing course or Farming God’s Way training which the ministry team offered to provide the converts with skills to make a living.

“The drug dealers were furious over this as they were losing income from the drop in sales, so they warned Bobor if he did not stop interfering with drug addicts they would beat him up,” reports Suzanne. She says the pastors ignored the threats and subsequently, a member of the ministry team, Pastor Moses was stoned by the dealers, landing him in hospital for two weeks. Then Emmanuel was beaten with sticks and hospitalised with bad head injuries.
Suzanne writes: “But God Himself intervened. The head drug dealer responsible for Moses and Bobor being beaten up, could no longer sleep at night. He then saw a man in white warning him to turn from dealing with drugs or he would see death very soon. The drug dealer immediately repented and also closed down the 10 drug cartels that he was head of. He then phoned Bobor, who he visited last week, along with another dealer who had also repented. They have both joined the church and will get baptised soon. To God be the glory, who is the only one who could intervene in such a powerful way.”
