Duduza author’s latest book calls on Church in SA to stand boldly for righteousness and hope

Book preview by Neziswa Kanju

Mzwakhe Mahlangu, a pastor, missionary and author from Duduza, Ekurhuleni has penned his latest book called State of the Nation’s Address: Christ’s Manifesto for a Renewed South Africa. He says,

“The book was born out of a burden for South Africa. I see the pain of corruption, inequality, and moral decline, but I also see hope. I wanted to write something that points us back to Christ — a manifesto that calls believers to rise and be agents of transformation.”

The message of the book is a call to action for the church. Mahlangu reminds believers that South Africa’s renewal will not come from politics or economics alone, but from Christ-centered values. He encourages the church to embrace its prophetic role and to stand boldly for righteousness and hope.

South Africa is in crisis. The question is whether the Church will respond. Thirty years after the end of apartheid, millions of South Africans are still waiting for the freedom that was promised. Corruption has gutted public institutions. Poverty has deepened. Leaders have looted what the people built. And too many Christians have stayed silent. SONA: Christ’s Manifesto for a Renewed South Africa is a bold, prophetic call to action from the pen of a concerned citizen who refuses to look away.

Mahlangu argues that South Africa’s crisis is not merely political — it is moral and spiritual. The nation has turned away from God, and no election, no manifesto, and no coalition government can fix what only genuine renewal can heal. Drawing on the wisdom of Solomon, the courage of Moses, the integrity of Nehemiah, and the strategic brilliance of Esther, Mahlangu says his book holds South Africa’s political reality up against the uncompromising light of Scripture.

It examines democracy, autocracy, theocracy, kleptocracy, and socialism — asking what faithful Christian citizenship looks like inside each system. It confronts state capture, social inequality, religious charlatanism, and the emptiness of political promises that are broken. But this is not a book of despair. It is a book of sober, grounded hope—the kind that looks honestly at how broken things are and still believes that change is possible when God’s people choose to act. SONA challenges every South African Christian to stop being a spectator and start being an ambassador—praying with purpose, voting with conscience, and living out the values of God’s Kingdom in every sphere of public life.

Mahlangu says: “I hope the book sparks conversations about unity, accountability, and the Church’s responsibility in nation-building. I want believers to ask themselves: What role am I playing in advancing God’s kingdom in South Africa?”

This sense of responsibility stems from his own childhood which he says was not easy. “Growing in a township meant facing challenges, but it also taught me resilience, faith, and the importance of community. Those early years shaped my heart for people and gave me a desire to uplift others through ministry and creative work.”

His conversion was a defining moment that completely changed his life. He encountered Christ in a very personal way. He says it wasn’t just about believing — it was about surrendering.

It is this surrendering that led to his decision to give his life to the service of God and His Church . In 2016 he became a pastor after years of serving faithfully in the church.

“My pastoral journey has been both challenging and rewarding. I’ve pastored in township communities, walking alongside people in their struggles and victories. For me, ministry is not just about preaching on Sundays — it’s about living the gospel daily and being present in people’s lives.”

There will be a book tour starting in Gauteng and then expanding to other provinces. Dates and venues will be announced soon.

The book is available through Remnant Network Publishing, selected bookstores, and online platforms. Churches can also contact the author for bulk buying.
