Dabi Community Foundation (DCF), a non-profit community development initiative for the people of Mpeko Village near Peddie was launched on Tuesday on Ngqushwa FM.

The foundation in partnership with Chief Njokweni is establishing a skills development programme in the rural Eastern Cape area, with initial emphasis on training the community in sustainable agriculture using Farming God’s Way methodology.

Farming God’s Way is a proven programme developed to equip African communities and individuals to break the yoke of poverty through agriculture, says Zolani Booi director of DCF in a press release.

“Rural Eastern Cape Villages continue to lose the younger generation to the cities due to limited prospects for education, employment and entrepreneurship in the area. This causes a breakdown in the generational structure and traditions of the community and culture — leading to poverty, and burden on the remaining older generation and the collapse of traditional family and community structure.

“Historically, farming was a significant part of the culture, and this has fallen away. Other social challenges around poverty and lack of employment, especially crime, have a further negative impact on the community,” he says.

DCF hopes to address these challenges through skills development and empowering the community through sustainable and practical agriculture, and entrepreneurship.
