God uniting churches in town after town, says ‘United 4 Jesus’ founder

Missionaries Christi and Beate ten Haaf heard God say they should get the Body of Christ to unite and so, a year ago, they held their first United 4 Jesus campaign in Port Alfred with seven participating churches.

The foundation was a series of events — starting with a prayer night, then a worship and thanksgiving night, then a day with separate events for men and women, then a leaders’ event. “And then the highlight is the family and friends service where we go to the town hall, basically taking the town for Jesus. It’s all the different ministries but one Body,” said Christi.

“The town hall was too small. It was overflowing. They even sat in the foyer — White, Coloured and Indian. It was such a joyful event.”

I was speaking to Christi on the day after the start of their third, and latest, United 4 Christ campaign — this time in Bisho and Qonce (King William’s Town). He said their second campaign, was held in May this year in Makhanda (Grahamstown), “Makhanda leaders contacted us. They said they had heard what we did in Port Alfred and could we come to them,” he explained.

He said 19 churches united to participate in the different events in Makhanda and once again the town hall, which is much bigger than the one in Port Alfred, was overflowing.

“When we were in Makhanda one of the leaders from King William’s Town who was attending the event asked if we could come to them next,” said Christi.

He said that for their current events in Bisho and King William’s Town, which are just 6km apart, they have about 12 participating churches. “The Lord just pressed my heart to invite John Mathuhle [Reconciliation advocate from Senekal and one of the leaders of the Time to Rise movement] to join our ministry team here. And, praise the Lord, his diary was open and he said ‘yes’, he’s coming in.

” So the Lord is just doing the connections and networking. So all the the glory goes to Jesus.”

He said each of the events from August 18 to August 22 is being hosted at a different participating church and the main family and friends service at 3pm on Sunday August 23 will be at the Skenjana Roji Community Hall, Bisho.

Asked about main themes that came up at the opening combined prayer night on Tuesday at Shallom House Ministries in uMzantsi, Qonce, he said repentance, brokenness in families and unity in the Body.
