The skirl o’ the pipes will rule at the Highland Gathering at Victoria Park Bowling Club, Port Elizabeth on Sunday, as pipe bands and Highland dancers compete for trophies.
The all-day event opens at 8am and includes highland dancing in the morning, individual and group piping events in the afternoon, culminating with a prize-giving and march past of the massed bands. The entrance fee is R15 for adults and R5 for scholars aged 12 and over. Children under 12 may enter for free.
Pipe bands from other centres, as well as Port Elizabeth’s own Algoa “Bell’s Extra Special” Caledonian Pipe Band will be competing for trophies. Highland dancers from Port Elizabeth and other centres will also compete for trophies and medals. There will be food stalls, craft stalls, a tea garden and a bar which will be run by the Victoria Park Bowling Club.
