#Hope4SA carries out drug bust on campaign trail

It’s one thing for a political party to say it opposes crime. But it’s another thing altogether to pursue and arrest criminals during a day’s campaigning.

While on an extended road trip in the Northern Cape a #Hope4SA team spotted a Gauteng-registered vehicle stopping on the roadside near Karos.

Party vice president Rooies Strauss, a former drug squad detective, knew something illegal was taking place when somebody got into the car and then got out again.

In a press release, #Hope4SA says that as the party team members approached the vehicle a man tried to flee on foot while another man hastily re-entered the vehicle and sped away.

The #Hope4SA team pursued and apprehended the fleeing man. They found drugs, including mandrax and tik in his possession.

They tried to contact SAPS in Upington but could not reach them. This prompted them to stream events on Facebook Live for public viewing and for evidential purposes.

Taking matters into their own hands, they detained the man. On the way to the police station in Upington, members of the #Hope4SA team prayed for success in apprehending the suspicious vehicle.

Their prayer and faith was rewarded when they intercepted the vehicle in the heart of Upington, where their colleagues Rooies and CJ Venter had already delivered the prisoner to police.

“We promptly intervened to halt the criminal activity. The functioning of our country is a collective responsibility,” said Strauss.

#Hope4SA is contesting the upcoming election with a vision to “bring biblical values to Parliament”.
