James Pringle, a worship leader and songwriter from George, South Africa, released his new EP Desires today. The six-track project is available on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube Music.
The six songs are inspired by Psalm 27:4:
“One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple.”
Psalm 27:4 (ESV)
Pringle, who leads Shofarband collective, describes the EP as both an offering of love to Jesus and a desperate prayer for Him to shape the heart: a heart that longs to give undivided attention, living in a culture of constant distraction.
Desires was recorded in studio and produced by Delano Jooste of Upperroom Studios and Neil Smit, with mixing by Neil Smit and mastering by Tim Lengfeld. The band includes musicians who have played with Bernice West, Karen Zoid and Heuwels Fantasties. Three songs feature fellow Worship Awake artists Langa Mbonambi, Marissa Verheij and Stella.
“Although I love making music, this album isn’t for me. Although I believe God will use it to move hearts, this album isn’t for people. This album is an offering for Him,” says Pringle.
“He must become my vision. He must sit on the throne of my ambition. His love must ruin every other desire in my heart. Until there’s only one thing that I seek, only one thing that I ask.”
The track Oh the Blood (featuring is a simple, powerful song built for congregations to sing, carried by a standout vocals from Stella. Three songs, Desires, Dancing on the Battleground and Steadfast (Give Thanks), were released as singles ahead of the EP.
The title track Desires drew nearly 40 000 streams in its first three weeks of release.
A six-day YouVersion plan, Undivided Worship in a Distracted World, walks through each song alongside the Scriptures that shaped it and will be available soon.
