A monthly column in which Julita Kok shares on living adventurously with God
What a wonderful, scary time we live in. Things are escalating in the world, and you really must be alone on an island or just very ignorant to not realise that major shifts are happening and happening very quickly. World events are so interesting now and some very, very scary. But we as children of God do not have a spirit of fear. We know and understand that these things must happen. But how they unfold, is truly so unexpected. Only God can use bad things to work for our good.
All of this just makes me realise that I have to buy out my time and make disciples wherever I go. And how God taught me, is to share on His goodness. Definitely there are evangelists and preachers who need to tell people they are lost and going to hell, but me — that is not my command from the Lord. He told me to visit with people and share on His goodness, because the goodness of God will lead men to repentance. And I see it all the time.
When I speak at places and I share my God stories on my everyday life, I see big men crying. I see the lights come on in some eyes. I see how they think on things in their own lives, and I know–. the Holy Spirit is doing the work. I have an easy job. I only share on His goodness.

I have just returned from a 10-day trip to a very beautiful Kalahari. It was hot and dry and the places I had to speak were mostly two hours apart on dirt roads, only made for 4×4 vehicles. It was not easy, and after I arrived there I became sick. On my first day! So strange, as I seldom get sick. But I had a job to do, and the people of the Kalahari were hungry. These farmers do not have it easy. It is a hard country. If you are not called to the Kalahari, you will never survive it. You either love it or hate it. But those red dunes and the grass fields sure are beautiful. But it is hot, as it is desert country. And because of the hardness of the land and the isolation, you will find people of the earth there. No-nonsense people dependent on what nature provides them and therefore living close to God — or not at all. There is no in between. You either believe in God or not. This is how it goes in the Kalahari. No in-betweens on anything. Harsh circumstances.
Oh, but the people! No harshness there. They welcome you into their homes. They share their best and they bless you just by being who they are. Their love for God, nature, their land, families and their animals are lifechanging. It changes you. Gives you a new perspective on how God intends for us to live. Simple lives. They eat from the land. They live off what the land offers. If it rains, there is food for the animals, and they can breed and sell, and life is good. No rain, it is tough, but then they have their faith in a living God, and this is beautiful to see. You understand things differently once you have been to the Kalahari.

I taught them about asking God for all things. Small things, big things. It does not matter, for He is a Father and what is important to you is important to Him. So, we can ask Him anything. I stayed on this one farm more or less three hours outside Upington, deep in the Kalahari. And the farmer’s wife decides to test my words. She then (without my knowledge) goes to the Father and tells Him: “Lord, I have nine chickens who lays eggs every day. That is nine eggs every day. Julita is here now, and she loves eggs, so I need extra eggs”. You need to understand something here. She only has these nine-egg laying chickens and they only lay one egg each per day. Always. This is how it is. So, she is now asking God for more eggs from these nine chickens. She rushes into the house and tells me this and says:”Come and see”. So under a bush, there is a chicken on a nest and when she removes the chicken, there are 12 eggs in a nest. But then, she finds that these eggs are incubated eggs, in other words, there are chicks inside. You cannot eat it. So I say: “You have to be specific. Tell the Lord you are looking for eggs suited for the pan, hehehe”. So she does. Within the next 15 minutes, we and her workers find another 12 eggs for the pan. Where she usually had nine eggs a day, after allowing God into her egg hunt, she had 24 eggs. 12 for the pan and another 12 which will produce more eggs, hehehe. This was such a big thing to her. And to me, because this is what makes Him a great God. He cares about the little things that have no importance in world affairs, but are important to His child.

And just like that, the goodness of God turned her heart around (she struggled with some things she did not understand) and her relationship with Him changed from the God in Heaven who brings rain or not, to a Father who takes care of all her needs and wants. A Father who wants to be involved in her everyday life. And my heart? My cup overflowed with joy! Such a small thing — but such a revelation. He wants to be part of our everyday lives. Not a Sunday-only God, or a God only in troubled times. A Father. A heart changed and everything on that farm changed. How I love Him.

Share on the goodness of God. It is so easy because you draw from your own life. And see how people around you change and see how that changes you. Let us build His Kingdom. We cannot allow those around us to spend eternity in hell. Tell them about your Father who is good and that will lead their hearts to repentance.
Much love to you all as I prepare for my next journey spending time with seven doctors from Kenya. Cannot wait to see what God does in their lives — and mine.
