A monthly column in which Julita Kok shares on living adventurously with God
Can you believe there is only one month left of this year?? Sounds totally unreal. Feels like I am just getting my feet planted steadily in this year and can now take it head on, only to realise: it is finished. Not sure if it is because one gets older or if it is a sign of the times? Everything is just happening so fast.
2025 has been such a challenging year for me, and yet, it was such an awesome year also. God was His old self — a good, good Father and I learned a lot. One of the greatest lessons learned this year once again, was to be obedient to God. This keeps you safe. And by safe, I do not mean unharmed or unchallenged. I mean it keeps you safe so that you can always declare at any given moment: “It is well with my soul.” For us as His children, even in death we are safe.
So, for me, the biggest assignment every day of every year is to spread the Gospel of Good News. This was the Great Commission and I trust the Holy Spirit to lead me to those sons that do not yet know that they are sons.
One such an occasion was at a bar. Those who know me, know that sometimes the places I travel to, only has a bar where you can have a meal and I do not mind going in there. And then there are times when God sends me into a bar. Now you have to understand that I have never had alcohol in my life. I do not drink wine or champagne or any other alcohol, so for me to go into a bar is not a temptation to start drinking. I will happily have a coffee or cold drink.
Jesus encounter in bar
But the people you meet!!! So interesting . One such encounter was with a young businessman. The moment I stretched out my hand to greet him, God gave me a word of knowledge and I told him about his own life. He was blown away and that evening he committed his life to the Lord. Both he and his wife. So time went by and then I heard the stories of this guy leading his friends and business associates to the Lord . He tells them they need Jesus and he testifies as to what happened to him and then he says: “You need to meet my tannie” (tannie is the Afrikaans word for aunty, but not by blood). Hehehehe, he still thinks I know everything because God showed me HIS life that time in the bar. He even helped a guy that was on heavy drugs for 15 years, to become sober and clean and give his heart to Jesus. And that addict is now on fire for Jesus testifying wherever he goes.
So here is the thing I want to get to. Many lives have changed this past year. Many lives through the testimony of this young businessman and his wife, and then the lives they touched who in turn changed lives and also through this “used to be addict” who is proclaiming Christ now. And what did I do in all of this? Actually nothing. All I did was obey the voice of the Holy Spirit, not being heavy religious and trusting that He knows what He is doing, going into the bar for a meal and sharing the Gospel of Good News with this young man. And then I left. But the Holy Spirit did not leave this man. He started teaching him and leading him concerning the path he should go and now. There are plenty of souls who now know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.
Just show up. Just be available. There was no effort on my side. In fact, I had a nice meal. But that young man who became a son that night, went out to change the world. And I can sit back and watch as I am sure the Father is also doing.
Don’t ever do too much. Only what He tells you. Nothing more, nothing less. He will do the rest.
I recently saw this young man and his wife again and they were so on fire, I was just in awe of what God has done . Changing a life just like that! Absolutely amazing.
To be obedient even when it sounds strange, is a mighty thing in the Spirit. Obedience enlarges your territory and your territory is not a better job and a bigger house –your territory is your authority in the Spirit. By obeying God, you gain more authority in the Spirit and He can trust you more and more. And to be working in God’s harvest field is a wonderful thing and to be trusted by Him, extremely humbling, but wonderful.
My challenge to you
My challenge to you for this one month of December left in 2025: be boldly obedient to the voice of the Holy Spirit and be ready to embark on an adventure of a lifetime. It will not only change the lives He entrusts you with, it will change YOU and that is a beautiful experience.

Aaaahhh my brothers and sisters, how wonderful to be alive in this day and age where we can see with our physical (and spiritual) eyes the battle between Light and darkness. And to see the Light within us driving out the darkness wherever we put down our feet and claim that territory for His kingdom. I love it. Challenging, but I love it, because I am never alone and neither are you.
Let’s not finish this year with empty hands. One month left to plunder Hell in 2025. In the name of Jesus, we will do it. The festive season is upon us with many things happening during this time. It is a wonderful time, but there is a terrible side to it also. Let us be the difference and win the lost. You are not alone.
“But those who entwine their hearts with Yahweh will experience divine strength. They will rise up on soaring wings and fly like eagles, run their races without growing weary, and walk through life without giving up.”
Isaiah 40:31
This is YOU. This is me.
Much love from a very warm Overberg, Cape Town.
