JULITA EXPLORES: Lingering in His presence — message from US

A monthly column in which Julita Kok shares on living adventurously with God

I am sitting in a cabin at a place called “Prayer Mountain in the Ozarks”. It is the property of Billye Brim and situated outside Branson, Missouri, United States. It is simply beautiful and people come here to spend time with God. So peaceful.

I for one, am extremely thankful to be here. When God told me to come to America, I applied for my visa, got it and booked my flight. Then the war happened. My ticket got cancelled, rescheduled, cancelled, re-scheduled, and every time I asked to keep my booking, I do not want a refund, I want to go to America. Then suddenly, the two-week ceasefire was called right at the time I had to fly and my ticket was re-routed and confirmed and here I am. God said I had to be here and I am. I flew via Qatar, right into the Middle East air space, but nothing was going on and I arrived safely. If He said it, it is done.

And right from take off, I knew I was there on His agenda. The gentlemen sitting next to me, were my first assignment. They were both South Africans, working on farms in the US, eight months away from home and then returning for four. They started drinking the moment the seatbelt signs were switched off. They offered me a drink also, but when I replied that I do not take any alcohol, it opened up a conversation. End of that conversation was one man in tears and the other thanking me for answering so many questions he had. Poor men, hehehehe, it was a 15.5-hour flight. They could not escape anywhere, hehehehe.

And from the moment I landed in Dallas and then Tulsa, I knew that once again, all I had to do was show up. God had it all figured out and I just had to show up.

Even with provision, He went before me. He always sends me when my bank account is on empty, but when I landed in Dallas and had to pay hotel accommodation, money was in my account. A friend from the US even called and said that I should download the Lyft app and use her credit card details, she would sponsor all my rides in the US, and when this happened, I knew He was once again, absolutely in control. My bank balance does not matter at all.

I am visiting nine states altogether and so am very thankful for the opportunities. I already spoke in four churches and had many one-on-one conversations and prayers. And every encounter is a God encounter.

Even today, a friend took me to a theatre production of David and as we were waiting for the doors to open, I decided to sit down, but there was only a tiny spot between two ladies. I squeezed myself into that spot and when I looked down, there was a diamond ring lying at my feet. I immediately asked the Lord if this was provision for me or one of the ladies? And I knew… it was the lady’s to my right. I asked her if she lost a ring and she looked at her hands and started crying. She lost her mother’s ring. Her mother passed away a few months ago and she wears the ring to keep her close. She said if this ring is gone, this day will be a very, very bad day. Then I showed her the ring and she just cried and cried and it opened up a wonderful conversation before the show started. He used a ring. How cool is this God of ours. So very much alive!!

God has been speaking to me about Joshua and why he could become Moses’s successor. Joshua used to linger in the presence of the Lord after Moses left the tent of meeting. Joshua just wanted to stay a little longer. He loved the presence so much. And we, as His children, love to pray, but the moment we say “amen”, we walk away. We do not linger in His presence and we do not wait on Him to speak to us and this is so important. If I can urge you to wait upon the Lord and then linger in His presence… That is what He wants. It is intimate. So beautiful. And because Joshua longed for and loved His presence, God could trust him with His people. Can He trust me and can He trust you with His people? I, for one, want to linger more so that I can be used by Him when the moment comes. It is during that lingering He starts speaking to us. I never want to be without that closeness.

Tomorrow I am travelling onwards and I trust to have many God encounters with people He puts on my path. It is always about people. And it changes me. I am so challenged on many things on this trip. It is as if God is giving me a look into our Christian ways and weighing them, what is religion and what is freedom in Christ. I truly am challenged on a few things and busy figuring out what it is that God is showing me. A new thing is coming, but it is an ancient way. Joshua already experienced it. When I figure it all out, I know that everything will be new to me, but yet, familiar. Always on the move this God of ours.

This is part of the Bible belt. Branson is a whole town filled with Christian activities to do.

I am on a journey once again discovering sides of God I had not known before and this is truly an adventure. Little bit scary also, but I am not afraid for I know His plans are good.

My prayer for you is that you too, will journey with Him and discover new things. Jesus and His Holy spirit are so present on this trip and I feel like a new Christian, discovering for the first time. May we all linger in His presence… Just a little more… and who knows… We might just uncover some of the mysteries of Heaven.

God bless you my brothers and sisters. He goes before you and nothing, but nothing is impossible for our God. May you never forget.
