Just say ‘Yes’

“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Mark 1:38b (NIV)

Are you the kind of person who says “Yes!” to everything?

I usually say no before I say yes.

I’m hesitant, the cautious type; I don’t want to commit till I know exactly what I’m jumping into.

Sometimes I wonder what I miss out on because of this.

I wonder if I was Mary, if I would have missed out on carrying and raising and coming to know Jesus.

What God asked Mary to do – be pregnant with the Son of God before her marriage – looked a lot like it would ruin not only her relationship with her family, but her family’s standing and status in the community.

But she still said, “Yes”.

She didn’t pray and fast for 3 months.

She just went ahead and said, “Yes”.

Maybe having an angel ask makes it easier.

I’m not sure.

I think I would have asked so many questions that eventually the angel of the Lord would have said, “Do you know what, I think we’ll just find someone else…”

I don’t know about you but I don’t want to be that way in my relationship with God.

I want to be the kind of person who trusts God with boldness.

I desire to be the kind of person who believes that God always has the best in mind for me even when His request seems crazy.

I’ve been thinking a lot about how to become a person who says “Yes!” to God easily and I think it starts with the small things.

I think it starts with us saying, “yes”, when he asks us to spend time with him. Or when he whispers we should pray for someone.

It starts with saying “Yes” when we feel God prompting us to invite someone out for coffee.

And I don’t know about you but I think I can do that.

One day, when He asks a big thing of us, hopefully we’ll have learnt enough about how He always comes through to say, “Yes, I am the Lord’s servant, may your word to me be fulfilled.”

What small thing is God asking you to say “yes” to? Take the risk, say yes to God and believe He’ll be with you.
