Kingdom project wins global award for spring water

The community-based South African aQuellė spring water is the proud winner of a global award for its sports and power drink, ViV, the latest addition to its product line.

Winners of the Zenith Global 17th Global Drinks Award was announced on October 20 with Viv winning in the category “Best new brand or brand extension”. ViV was a finalist in three categories and was the winner out of 165 entries from more than 27 countries.

The industry’s only Global Drinks Award is designed to celebrate excellence and innovation across every category of the packaged water industry. But what makes it so unique and outstanding is that the aQuellė spring water brand was started to support missionary and humanitarian work to support the communities in rural areas, and has been instrumental in spreading the Gospel for over 50 years!

Winning the award is a great way to enhance a brand and ensure that the product and concept is recognised on an international scale. But it is also befitting that this brand wins an international award, as the pay-it-forward principle is at the core of all its operations.

The aQuellé water, including its latest ViV brand, is bottled by Ekhamanzi Springs (PTY) Ltd and two of its plants are situated at the KwaSizabantu Mission in the rural area in Kranskop, KwaZulu Natal.

As a community-based business, one of their core values and focus is the upliftment of rural communities. The company is the biggest employer in the area. They employ more than 300 people, mostly from the surrounding rural communities. All the employees are provided with training to operate the machines, do quality control, and perform good manufacturing processes.

The communities are dependent on the jobs that are being created by the water bottling plants in their area. Job opportunities in the area are hard to come by, so aQuellé’s bottling plants provide job opportunities for community members to earn money so they can support their families with dignity. Because of the nature of the company, their marketing campaigns and outreach events frequently have local participation that directly benefits the communities.

Recently, during and after the riots and devastating destructions aQuellé reached out again to distressed families in the rural areas by handing out food and water to them.

aQuellé also recently collaborated with its community to clean up neglected areas that have been neglected for far too long and, again, the spring water provided nourishment during the hard work. The business sponsors many community and sporting events throughout the country such as the Midmar Mile, Mudman Series, Tour Durban, and the Spar Women’s Challenge. The Mission’s outreach programmes include local feeding schemes for orphaned children, an HIV/Aids care centre, and a broad spectrum of community projects.

The bottling plant is one of the many projects that is run as a business and funding mechanism to ensure sustainability of the KwaSizabantu Mission where the bottling plants are located.

With the revenue generated from these businesses, the mission has been able to expand their businesses and assist more people and finance their outreach programmes.
