A thanksgiving service at KwaSizabantu Mission in Kranskop, KwaZulu-Natal, on Sunday June 23 will be the highlight of a week of celebrating 50 years of youth conferences.

KwaSizabantu, which has defined standards for sharing the Gospel with the younger generation through youth conferences and other outreaches for the past 50 years, invites all to celebrate with them during this year’s youth conference from Wednesday June 19 to Tuesday June 25.

The programme is packed, and exceptional speakers have been invited to share insightful messages with the youth. Three services will be held daily in the auditorium, except on Sunday June 23, when only the thanksgiving service will be held. Services will be streamed daily by the mission’s community radio station, Radio Khwezi. More information about the streamings will be posted on the official website, www.khwezi.org.za

Since 1974, attendance at the KwaSizabantu Youth Conference has increased rapidly, with thousands of children and young people attending. Each event has a specific theme. This year, the theme is from 1 Chronicles 16:8, which reminds us to “make His deeds known among the people”.

Lidia Dube,  a senior manager and trustee of the mission, laid the foundation for the youth conference when she shared her testimony and the Gospel with small groups all those years back. The small meetings grew into a more significant event after community parents asked her to include their children. Today, youth conferences are held twice a year. These conferences have motivated young people to know God’s Word, develop a relationship with the Lord, and become active in their church community.

The impact of the KwaSizabantu Youth Conferences is immense. It has become a catalyst for recruiting souls for the Kingdom. It also helps young people with serious problems and addictions. The mission’s Concerned Young People of South Africa (CYPSA) programme has since come into existence to deal with serious social issues such as addiction, child molestation, and human trafficking, to name a few. So far, they’ve helped more than 20 000 young people struggling with addictions. CYPSA also visits schools and prisons to create awareness of drugs and addiction.

  1. This is a fantastic event and a life-changing experience to attend a KwaSizabantu Youth Conference. I have volunteered in the past to help and will do it again. 50 years of youth conferences is a huge milestone, especially when one considers that the mission hosts two conferences per year, transports the youngsters from their place of origin and back, and accommodates and feeds them for an entire week. Congratulations on a job well done, organisers. I hope others will do the same and invest in the youth – our future.
