Arlene and I returned from Australia on May 22 after attending the 7thWorld Congress of Families in Sydney. The Congress was a resounding success for the global pro-family movement.
What is encouraging is connecting with so many like-minded people from across the world who are committed to upholding God’s design for marriage, working tirelessly to defend the natural family.
The standard of the presentations from some of the world’s leading pro-family advocates was exceptional! Many divine connections were established which helps strengthen our cause.
I am in discussions with several African representatives from WCF to host a regional conference on the family in Cape Town in early 2014. Marriage and the natural family are under unprecedented attack from homosexual activists. The Church must defend these vital social institutions.
The growing challenges against the beliefs, convictions and constitutional freedoms of Christians are cause for great concern. The authority and integrity of the Bible is also under direct threat.
Rampant attack on family in west
Alarmingly, the attacks on the Christian Church are not only limited to South Africa but appear to be rampant in the western world. The Obama administration in the US is providing great impetus to the global anti-life, anti-family and anti-Christian movements.
However – as proclaimed at the World Congress of Families – there is a significant stirring in the global Christian Church. Many leaders have recognised this threat and are entering the battle.
In SA, we have moved beyond the demand for tolerance of homosexual behaviour. Emboldened by successes in the US and Europe, activists are now demanding that the Church conform!
But the true Body of Christ has only one source of instruction – the Word of God! Romans 12:2 declares, “And do not be conformed to this world: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
God’s will for your and my life is that we never compromise His Word under any circumstances. We are also instructed to expose wickedness and boldly advance His kingdom in every area of life.
You and I are commanded by Scripture to speak the truth in love! Significantly, however, love and truth are interchangeable. We cannot claim to love somebody if we fail to tell them the truth.
Tragically, many in the contemporary Church are conforming to this world’s ideology – some under the guise of love and others as a result of self-preservation or just plain fear.
But again, our only reliable source of instruction declares, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” Love, power and stability are spiritual weapons.
I encourage you to use the spiritual weapons God has provided to defeat the enemy of our souls.
