In our area, at Easter time, we receive a direct sign that we are to remember what Jesus did for us. It comes in the form of the beautiful Cosmos flowers that line the district roads. This has become one of my most special flowers.

It is all about “dying to live”. The Scripture which I align with Easter is John 12:24-25 (NLT). Jesus says: I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels, a plentiful harvest of new lives. Those who love their life in this world will lose it. And those who care nothing for their life in this world will keep it for eternity.
It is in dying that we live. If you take a bag of maize seeds and put them in the storeroom, it can stay there for many years if it is well fumigated, but it will produce nothing. The maize pip has got to be put into moist ground where it literally dies and in dying it germinates and produces new life and a maize plant grows out of it. With today’s modern technology and up-to-date farming methods, that one kernel can produce up to three maize cobs with many kernels on each cob. The Lord Jesus means for us to prefer one another to ourselves. Easter is when we remember that the Son of God gave His life for you and me, so that for those of us who believe, we will have eternal life.
John 15:13(NLT) says: There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. This is exactly what Jesus Christ has done for you and for me. He also says that we who love Him should do the same. Before I became a Christian, I would often say that I have my rights and I can do what I like with my life, but since becoming a follower of Jesus Christ, I realised I have no rights left. I surrendered all to Him. I am now living for Him. I believe if this attitude was perpetuated in our beloved South Africa, what a wonderful place it would be to live in.
One of our major seed companies has a slogan: “Good seed doesn’t cost, it pays.” Which means what you sow is what you will reap. If you lay down your life for your fellow man, then you will reap a mighty harvest. If you are only concerned about yourself, you will end up a very lonely person. I would encourage you before it is too late to start being a giver and not a taker. Start to adopt the attitude of Easter, which is all about preferring one another. You will find that your family, your workers and your fellow businessmen will start to appreciate you more and as you enjoy your work and home, things will become more successful.
God bless
