Thirty three years after he wrote Bursting the Wineskins — an inspiring autobiographical account of his quest for a deeper understanding and experience of the Holy Spirit — evangelist and Christian leader Michael Cassidy has released an updated version of the book.
Republished by African Enterprise, the update of the highly-acclaimed and influential book aims to encourage a new generation of Christians from many different backgrounds, through its exploration of the close connections between the Holy Spirit, evangelism and social action.
The updated book includes a foreword by Eugene Peterson. best-known for his popular paraphrase of the Bible, The Message.
Commenting on the revised Bursting the Wineskins Cassidy says: “I am thankful we have been able to republish and reprint this updated version of my book Bursting the Wineskins.
“I have wanted to do this for some time because the book did very well indeed around the world when it first came out, and I think it has lots of good potential to bless and encourage many others again as the new edition sees the light of day.
“Although the book is fairly autobiographical, containing my own story of quest in terms of the Person and Work of the Holy Spirit, nevertheless the biblical and theological truths round the teachings on the Spirit’s ministry in and through us are universal and applicable at any time and in any place.
“I do also feel that in the Church of South Africa, churches and believers need to seek afresh the empowering and equipping of the Holy Spirit for life and service. I so want this book to contribute to fulfilling this need.”
