Back in February 2011 I launched Gateway News with a vision to bring hope in Jesus through news.
Fourteen and a half years later I am days away from taking my first sabbatical break — a step recommended by the amazing people who pray with Val and me on Wednesday mornings. Thank you Afrika, Lindi, Alistair and Edward (and many others who have prayed with us over the years) for your support, encouragement and wise counsel. At first I hesitated to take the advice, because it would mean not publishing “the God stories of Africa” while I was resting. But after our daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Christopher, invited us on an unexpected, sponsored trip to visit them in the US, I decided that the timing was right to take a sabbatical over July and August.
And so, I am publishing this week’s Gateway News from Redding, California where we will be for another 4 weeks before returning to Gqeberha (PE). One of the blessings of publishing God stories over the years has been building relationships with various Christian leaders across SA and beyond. And so, when I realised that taking a sabbatical would also mean taking a break from my weekly news wrap on Radio Pulpit, I asked 11 leaders to kindly step in for me while I am away. Their short reflections on developments in their areas of Kingdom influence will be broadcast on my news spot each week and can be listened to here.
I am looking forward to the break from meeting deadlines and hope that I will be able to use the time to be mentally and spiritually refreshed. I am also praying for Holy Sprit-inspired ideas and opportunities for the next chapter of Gateway News that will begin when I return in September. There is such a need to reach people with credible news and testimonies that inspire unshakeable hope in Jesus and which align with what is important to Him in this season!!!

Enjoy your sabbatical break from Gateway over the next two months. Thank you too to everybody who prays for Gateway News, to our advertisers and to our special, generous friends who support us financially.
Although I will not be publishing news during my sabbatical, I warmly invite you to email me at andre@gatewaynews.co.za with any news or testimonies to follow up on my return in September, or with any suggestions or requests. I will respond to all emails when I am back.
Blessings
Andre
