Persecution mission veterans Dr Nik and Ruth Ripken* will conduct a one-day ‘Servants in the Crucible’ seminar in Pretoria, Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town in September.
The Ripkens, who are being hosted in South Africa by Open Doors, have interviewed approximately 600 believers who live courageously in persecuted environments in 72 countries. They began their global pilgrimage after their teenage son died due to an asthma attack in 1997 when they were serving in Somalia. The goal in their travels was to recapture a Biblical missiology of witnessing and house church planting within environments of persecution and martyrdom.
Nik and Ruth, who are currently based in the Middle East, say that the believers they met on their pilgrimage courageously shared with them how to thrive in persecution; more than just survive. The couple has published a number of articles and books related to faith in persecution.
