SA couple accept ‘Challenge’ of spreading good news

Ilse and Cobus Beukes, who promote Challenge Good News Paper in South Africa

Pretoria educator Ilse Beukes was reading through the book of Acts, when she asked the Lord to reveal to her how she could be a witness to Him.

A few days later she heard about Challenge, an evangelistic newspaper founded in Australia and printed in 20 countries for distribution to ministries, prisons, army bases and more.

“At first I ordered papers to distribute everywhere I went, I shared my testimony and helped wherever possible,” said Ilse, who has been promoting Challenge in South Africa since 2022.

She and her husband, Cobus, who became director of Challenge in SA in April 2024, are both passionate about sharing the Gospel and helping to build God’s Kingdom on Earth.

Challenge was founded as a non-profit ministry in Australia by Eric Evans in the late 1970s. Eric was led to find a print shop and while he had no experience in printing, he trusted God to give him the skills, resources and people to get the job done. Later Carl Cormody, who was trained in TV and film media, took a step of faith by accepting an offer to join Challenge as editor, a role he still fulfils.

The publication, whose editorial team is based in Perth, Australia, is known today as Challenge Good News Paper, due to the founding team’s partnership with the UK Good News Paper. It is printed in SA every second month and couriered to various ministries. There is a prison edition that reaches prisoners and a military edition which is distributed to various military bases across SA.

Filled with testimonies of hope aimed at believers and non believers of all ages, Challenge can also be read online on Facebook and WhatsApp broadcast groups. Readers can also share the paper on social media, and it is available for free at www.challengenews.online

The paper was named Challenge Good News Paper because itaims to challenge readers’ beliefs and to challenge them to share their faith boldly.

You are challenged to use the paper to reach your daily contacts, as an aid when evangelising, for handing out at special events, hospitals, retirement homes, taxis and shopping centres.

“This paper can go where we can not and speak where we can not,” said Ilse.
