Singing away ‘Januworry’ blues — Hugh Wetmore

An article written for the New Year was titled Januworry, lamenting all the troubles which the first month of the year bring.  It saw only the dark clouds of debts accumulated through reckless spending at the Christmas season — on food, entertainment, holiday-travel, presents for the family and alcohol. And now the need for school uniforms and fees to further deepen one’s debt. Januworry!

Hopefully Christians will have avoided such foolishness, and are able to enter 2022 with joyful singing from the heart.  They hear this call of Zephaniah 3:14 ff:

“Sing and shout aloud!  Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, for the LORD has taken away your punishment, and has turned back your enemy. … The LORD your God is with you, He is mighty to save!”

But we are not singing alone. Look and see, listen and hear. Who is singing along with us? It is the Lord our God whose voice rises in a joyful crescendo in verse 17. What prompts God to sing?

It humbles us to realise that He is singing because of us!

“He will take great delight in you, He will soothe you with His love, He will rejoice over you with SINGING!”

Let’s enter 2022 with singing! And as we sing, we humbly thank God for loving us, saving us and for His joy as He sings about us!
