Music industry entrepreneur Julita Kok shares a testimony of how she recently found herself in an awkward spot. And how she resolved it with God’s help
Adele (the publisher in my office) and I were invited to a corporate event and we were so happy to just network again with people in our industry.
So, after lunch, they had an entertainer there. A transvestite, performing songs with vulgar actions and making use of “tools” to demonstrate. I looked at the people around me and saw how much they were enjoying the show.
I sat there and asked the Lord: “Lord, as a child of God… do I get up and walk out? Do I show everyone that this is offensive to me with my facial expressions? Do I pretend that I am okay with it and complain afterwards? How do I handle this?”
And then I asked the Lord to show me who this young gentleman was. Oh my word, I was blown away by what I saw in the Spirit. I saw a young boy going to church with his grandmother and, and, and…
So, after the show and after everyone had finished taking pictures with the entertainer, I walked up to him, introduced myself and asked if I could tell him what I saw when I looked at him.
He said — very friendly: “Yes, please.” And I do not know what he thought I was going to say, but he never expected what I did say. I told him that I saw a “pinksterseun” [pentacostal boy], going to church with his grandmother.
He started crying, trying to save his make up. And I told him what God was showing me and how much God loves him and that God has far more for him in this life than what was going on in his life right now.
He wiped his tears and asked if he could tell me something and went on by telling me how, just three months ago, he tried to commit suicide three times. But the third time he nearly succeeded and ended up in hospital. And there, a random person walked into his room and told him that God is not finished with him. And here I was telling him how much God loved him and that God has more for him.
He said: “I have a lot to go and think about”. And he thanked me and I could see that he was touched.
Later in my car, I was just crying because of God’s love for people. I truly wanted to walk out of that room, but there in my car I told the Lord: “Jesus, if You were here at this function today, I now know that You would not have been sitting at my table. You would sit at the table of the people that simply loved the act.
“That is where I would find You…. With them who need You. You would not have walked out. You would make a difference in their lives right there and then”.
I realised that I still have a lot of religion in me and that I cannot afford to look at people with my eyes, but always through His eyes — and to love them with His love as He deeply loves all people.
I was humbled by this experience and I pray that this young man will choose life and that Jesus will be his choice.
May God use us all in the lives of those around us and may we be changed by it. The Word says that the goodness of God will lead men to repentance. Let us tell people everyday of the kindness and goodness of God. May the God who directs all of our steps, bless you.
