The current economic turmoil engulfing the world indicates the fragile nature of mankind’s security. Mankind’s rejection of God and increasing self-reliance has led the world to the brink of disaster.
Major economic powerhouses like the US and Europe are teetering on the brink of economic collapse. Both America and the European Union are drowning in a sea of debt brought on by the rejection of their traditional economic policies and their embracing of the man-centred philosophy of socialism.
As the UK drifts further away from its Christian foundations, social and economic chaos appear to plague this once invincible empire. In post Christian England, wickedness is protected by law while Bible believing Christians are hounded and persecuted for merely expressing their Biblical convictions.
The senseless murders, wanton destruction and criminal looting currently devastating England are a result of the nation’s rejection of Biblical values and its embracing of secular humanism.
Most of the destruction and looting is perpetrated by the youth – some as young as 11. Without a strong moral foundation the family in England is rapidly disintegrating – resulting in social chaos.
A large percent of the US elected and enthroned a human messiah in whom they entrusted the future well-being of their nation. Just three years later, the once mighty America’s credit ratings are downgraded for the first time in history while it struggles to stave off economic disaster.
Barack Obama, the man anointed as the US and the world’s saviour in 2008, turns out to be a weak and indecisive leader. The US president – whose oratory skills are legendary – is increasingly resorting to speechmaking to calm the storm. However, as the persistent raging storm indicates, Obama’s messianic capabilities are exposed as mere hype by an over-zealous and deceptive liberal media.
The world is in turmoil. Massive earthquakes, tsunamis, wars, civil unrest, economic peril and famines of biblical proportions all expose the fragility of mankind in contrast to the awesome power of God.
In particular, the social and economic upheaval gripping Europe and America are a direct result of their rejection of their Christian heritage. Once Christian nations in Europe and the US have abandoned their biblical value system and have voluntarily embraced secular humanism as their preferred ideology.
South Africa faces a similar fate. The warnings of Scripture in Psalm 9:17 are particularly pertinent. “The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.”
Western Europe and America have turned their backs on the God that made them the most powerful and prosperous nations in the world. The evidence of their folly is played out in the nightly news bulletins.
The question is, “how could these nations become so godless with so many Christians living in them?” The answer is, “a silent, inactive and inward focussed Church with little or no social influence.”
Europe and the US epochal slide towards paganism signals a warning to the Church in South Africa.
The Church in SA can either succumb to the bankrupt ideology of humanism or it can choose to harness the power of God to steer this nation towards its God-given destiny and purpose.
Whether you and I give God or the devil the victory in SA – the decision ultimately rests with us. Choose for yourselves whom you will serve – but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
