The Healing Awakening revival meetings that have been running in Tongaat, KwaZulu-Natal for more than a month, are moving to Pretoria on Wednesday, May 15.

The last service in the AFM Church in Tongaat, where it all started after Canadian evangelist Todd Bentley was invited to minister there for four days from April 5, will be on Sunday, May 12.

The meetings will start up again in Hall L of the Tshwane Events Centre (previously known as the Pretoria Showgrounds), west of the Pretoria City Centre, at 7pm on Wednesday, said John McGirvin of Fresh Fire Ministries.

He said that Bentley decided on the move after seeking the Lord in prayer. Asked how long they expected to stay in Pretoria, Mc Girvin said: “We have no idea whether it will be a month, six months, or 10 years. As Todd says we are following the cloud — going where the Father directs.”

He said that Bentley has it in his heart that he is supposed to go to Cape Town at some time as well. But he has absolutely no idea when that will be.

The Tongaat Healing Awakening which has hosted numerous divine healings and thousands of decisions for Christ has become a global phenomenon thanks to live daily international broadcasts by Christian television network, GOD TV since April 12. GOD TV will be there right up to the last service on Sunday but has yet to confirm whether it will provide live coverage from Pretoria. The high cost of taking the event to the world daily will be considered by the network.

Testimonies of God’s miraculous power continue to flood into GOD TV as people’s lives are being touched through the daily meetings in Tongaat, KwaZulu-Natal and many more are receiving miracles while watching at home, said GOD TV Global Communications Officer, Al Gibson. He said a number of viewers have shared how they’ve been healed as they have reached out to their TV screen while Bentley was praying.

Testimonies received from viewers included:

  • “Touching the TV in faith, my cataracts were completely healed!”
  • “This is the first time I’m walking since 2007. Tumours have disappeared from my ears.
  • “All the pain is gone.”
  • “I just got healed after 16 years of pain, watching in Nigeria.”

Mass altar calls have been evident at the Healing Awakening from day one with over 7 000 recorded decisions for Christ to date, with many miracles of salvation in the lives of people from Muslim and Hindu backgrounds, said Gibson. Thousands of prayer cloths have also been prayed over and distributed with many positive results.

He said Bentley sees the Healing Awakening as an opportunity for people to be commissioned to become carriers of a healing anointing as there is a great grace for an impartation of God’s healing power to people watching the services.

  1. I Jn 4:1
1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

  2. Hi John,

I’m not sure if you realise it, but the fuller passage in 1 Jn 4:1-3 also tells you precisely HOW to test the spirits:

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:

3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.”

I just thought I would mention this in case anyone was assuming that they could discern what spirits are at play by looking at certain outward manifestations that may or may nor conform with our limited view of how God “should” behave!

The only way to discern whether or not God is in these “healing revival meetings” is to look at the confession of Christ that is involved:

Is the gospel of Jesus Christ being presented or something else? Are people committing their lives to serve Jesus or someone/something else?

I would argue based on 1 John 4:1-3 that if the gospel of the Kingdom is being preached and people are getting saved for the first time or recommitting their lives to serving Jesus then this would prove that the Holy Spirit is at work.

This simple biblical test stands to logical reason as well: the devil is not in the business of scoring “own goals” by leading people to Jesus!

  3. God would have never given him the gift to heal and do wonderous things. If this was satanic would have been killing people. God is good, he his blessed and I wish to be in his healing presence myself.
