At the 2026 National Day of Prayer and Repentance, hosted by Awakening South Africa, Prayer and Repentance Movement, held at the Nieuwmeester Dome, Parliament’s temporary National Assembly chamber in Cape Town, on September 25, Pastor Fransi van Wyk of Perez Ministries called the Church to look beneath the surface of the nation’s pain and to pray for healing at its roots. Since then, many readers have asked for her prayer points and the prayer she led. We share them here.
The Niewemeester Dome was full, with many more following on the livestream. Pastor Fransi van Wyk opened with the Scripture that framed the whole day. “If My people, who are called by My Name, humble themselves, and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways,” she read from 2 Chronicles 7:14, “then I will hear from heaven, and forgive their sin and heal their land.”
The promise, she said, carries a quiet implication. A land can become sick, and God is willing to heal it. But healing begins with the people of God, not with the government, the economy or the next election.
How does land become sick?
“When we look at our beautiful country,” Pastor Fransi said, “we know that what we see is certainly not a healthy, stable and fruitful nation.”
She pointed to the many places in Scripture where God addresses a city or nation as a whole. Jesus warned Bethsaida and Chorazin that it would be worse for them than for Sodom because they did not repent. He wept over Jerusalem: “How often I wanted to gather you, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing.” God, she said, holds communities accountable for how they respond to sin.
Symptoms and roots
The corruption, violence and bloodshed South Africans see every day are, in her words, “symptoms and the fruit”. The deeper question is a spiritual one: how has the enemy gained a legal right to operate in our nation?
Scripture reveals the enemy’s character plainly: to steal, to kill and to destroy. Drawing on Romans 6:13, Pastor Fransi reminded listeners that our words, actions and choices can become instruments of righteousness or of unrighteousness. When injustice is ignored, when hatred and unforgiveness are allowed to remain, and when sin goes unrepented, doors are opened.
“We cannot simply pray, ‘God, heal our land,'” she said, “without asking, ‘Lord, show us what needs to be dealt with.'”
The answer is not political. The answer is not economic. The answer is not social. There is a spiritual dimension that the Church must confront.
Looking at the foundations
It was a striking message to bring inside Parliament itself. Pastor Fransi and her team researched the origins of the country’s parliamentary institutions and found Freemasonry woven into them from the start, including the masonic ceremony with which the foundation stone of the Parliament buildings was laid.
Her concern was spiritual rather than historical. Freemasonry, she argued, binds members with secret oaths, divides a Christian’s allegiance, and points to a generic “Great Architect” rather than to Jesus Christ as the only way to salvation. For a nation seeking healing, she said, these foundations must be brought before God and renounced.
Blood that cries out
The second root she named was bloodshed. In Genesis, the blood of Abel cried out from the ground. Leviticus teaches that the life is in the blood. Bloodshed in sin, she said, gives the enemy a claim, and only the blood of Jesus, received through repentance, can silence it.
She named the 1966 assassination of Prime Minister Hendrik Verwoerd in Parliament, the deaths of Steve Biko and Professor Johan Heyns, and every life taken for a political agenda. Each, she said, must be brought before the Lord.
Division
The third root was the deep division of South Africa’s history: injustice, discrimination, apartheid, hatred and unforgiveness passed from one generation to the next. Here the keynote moved from teaching to intercession, as Pastor Fransi led the gathering in prayer for forgiveness, healing and reconciliation.
“Our nation needs more than change on the surface,” she said. “South Africa needs a spiritual awakening. And it begins with the people of God taking responsibility for what God has entrusted to us.”
Prayer points for South Africa
For readers who want to carry this prayer into their homes, small groups and churches, here are the points Pastor Fransi prayed through.
- Humble ourselves and seek God’s face. Pray 2 Chronicles 7:14 over the nation. Ask: “Lord, show us what needs to be dealt with.”
- Close the doors we have opened. Ask God to reveal where sin, injustice, hatred and unforgiveness have given the enemy a foothold, in our own lives as well as the nation’s.
- Renounce ungodly foundations. Reject every oath, covenant, ritual and allegiance that sets itself above the Lordship of Jesus Christ, including in Government, Parliament and the Church. Declare Jesus the true cornerstone of South Africa.
- Repent of innocent bloodshed. Stand on behalf of ourselves, our nation and our forefathers. Ask forgiveness for murders, political killings, wars, assaults and every life taken. Ask that the blood of Jesus silence the blood that cries out (Genesis 4:10, Hebrews 12:24).
- Repent of division. Ask forgiveness for racism, prejudice, discrimination, contempt, and the laws and systems that valued some people above others.
- Pray for healing of wounds and memories. Ask God to heal wounds carried from generation to generation, in families, communities, churches and cultures.
- Pray for reconciliation in every sphere: homes, communities, churches and workplaces. Ask for unity founded on truth, justice, forgiveness, dignity and mutual respect (Psalm 133).
- Pray for a new generation. Ask that young South Africans inherit a legacy of reconciliation, not the hatred of the past.
- Declare God’s purposes. Proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord over South Africa, over its times and seasons, and over its future.
The prayer
Pastor Fransi led the gathering in a prayer of repentance in four movements, ending with a declaration over the nation. It is reproduced here so that readers can pray for themselves.
1. Turning from ungodly foundations
Father, today we come before You in the Name of Jesus Christ, with humility, reverence and faith. We acknowledge that You alone are God and that Jesus Christ is Lord over South Africa.
Father, we renounce and reject every ritual, ceremony, oath, agreement, covenant, symbol, allegiance and practice that is contrary to Your Word and to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. We turn away from every ungodly influence and every allegiance that has exalted itself above Your authority. We ask You to cleanse our nation, heal our land and restore all that has been broken.
Through the blood of Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross, we declare that we belong to You. We declare that South Africa belongs to Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ alone is Lord, and He is the true and eternal Cornerstone of our nation. We renounce every ungodly connection between Freemasonry, Government, Parliament and the Church that is contrary to the leadership of Jesus Christ.
In the Name of Jesus Christ, we renounce every covenant, agreement, allegiance, dedication and commitment that is contrary to the purposes of God. We declare that none of these has authority over us or over our nation. Father, we thank You that the blood of Jesus is greater than every work of darkness and every power that opposes Your purposes. No ritual, ceremony, symbol or covenant of any human institution has greater authority over South Africa than Jesus Christ.
Lord, lead our nation into a new season of transformation, healing, restoration, righteousness and reconciliation. Turn the hearts of our people towards you and cause the Church to arise in the fullness of Christ, with humility, holiness, courage and love.
Jesus Christ is our Lord. Jesus Christ is our Cornerstone. Jesus Christ is our Foundation. Jesus Christ is our King. Father, to You alone belong all our honour, glory, praise and worship.
2. Repentance for bloodshed
Father, as a nation we come before You to humble ourselves in prayer. We worship You as the Creator God of Heaven and Earth, There is none higher than You (Psalm 97:9). Jesus, you are our Advocate. You paid the full price so that we can be forgiven and the legal right of the enemy can be broken.
You say in Isaiah 58 that You give us the right to rebuild the places that have been devastated and to restore the foundations. Father, we stand as South Africans on behalf of ourselves, our nation and our forefathers, and we ask forgiveness for all the innocent blood that has been shed in this land: for the wars, murders, suicides and assaults, and for every place where we have been guilty of shedding innocent blood. We acknowledge our guilt and ask for Your forgiveness.
Your Word says that life is in the blood. We ask that every voice crying out from this blood be silenced by the blood of Jesus. We declare that the blood of Jesus has the power to cleanse what took place in our Parliament in 1966 [the assassination of Dr Verwoerd]. We bring before You all the other murders, including the political killings, and we ask for forgiveness.
Father, based on the forgiveness secured for us through Jesus, we pray that every claim of blood the enemy has used against our nation be silenced by the blood of Jesus. Thank You that His blood was shed for our past, present and future. We declare that God’s purposes, plans, times and seasons for South Africa will prevail according to His will and His Word.
The blood of Jesus speaks of freedom, redemption and healing. As ambassadors, we stand on the victory of the cross and declare: South Africa belongs to the Lord. Thank You, Jesus, for Your victory.
3. Repentance for division
Father, we bow before You in worship and humility as a nation. We stand in the gap for ourselves, for our families, for our generations and for South Africa. We acknowledge that our nation carries deep wounds from our history: wounds caused by injustice, discrimination, oppression, hatred, division, violence, fear, pride and unforgiveness.
Forgive us for the sins we have committed against one another, and for the ways we have participated in, supported, tolerated or perpetuated division and injustice. Forgive us for the laws and systems that placed people into different classes and treated some as more valuable than others. Forgive us for every form of racism, prejudice, discrimination, hatred and contempt that has wounded the people of this nation. Forgive us for our pride, arrogance, disobedience, rebellion, bitterness and unforgiveness.
Father, heal the wounds of our nation. Heal the wounds carried from one generation to another. Heal the wounds in our families, communities, churches, cultures and relationships. Heal the memories of injustice, rejection, oppression, violence, loss and humiliation.
Where there has been hatred, bring forgiveness. Where there has been bitterness, bring healing. Where there has been division, bring reconciliation. Where there has been mistrust, restore relationships. Where there has been injustice, establish righteousness and justice. Where there has been fear, release Your peace. Where there has been brokenness, bring restoration.
Uproot every root of bitterness, hatred, racism, prejudice and unforgiveness, and let these roots no longer pass from one generation to the next. Break down the walls that separated us, the barriers created by apartheid, racism, prejudice, economic division and historical wounds.
Teach us to see one another through Your eyes: not by the colour of our skin, our language, our culture or our social position, but as people created in Your image. Your Word says in Psalm 133 that where brothers dwell together in unity, you command Your blessing. Establish true unity among the people of South Africa, not a unity that denies our differences, but one founded on truth, justice, forgiveness, dignity, love and mutual respect.
Give us hearts willing to forgive and to seek forgiveness. Give us courage to acknowledge the wrongs of the past without allowing the past to become a prison for future generations. Give us grace to listen to one another, understand one another and honour one another. Let the love of Jesus govern our relationships.
Let reconciliation enter our homes, our communities, our churches, our places of work and every sphere of our nation. Thank You, Jesus, for Your precious blood that redeemed us, and that through the cross You have broken down the walls of hostility.
Our history does not have the final word; Jesus does. Hatred will not have the final word; love will. Division will not have the final word; reconciliation will. Bitterness will not have the final word; forgiveness will. Brokenness will not have the final word; restoration will. Death will not have the final word; Jesus Christ is Lord.
Heal our land. Heal our people. Heal our relationships, our memories, our families and our communities. Raise up a generation that will not inherit the hatred and divisions of the past, but a legacy of reconciliation, righteousness, unity, compassion and love. Let South Africa become a nation marked by justice, peace, reconciliation, restoration and the love of Jesus Christ.
Father, we place our nation in Your hands. Forgive us, heal us, restore us and transform us. We pray all these things in the mighty Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
4. A declaration over South Africa
Father God, we humble ourselves before You and acknowledge that You are the Creator of heaven and earth, the Lord over nations, generations, seasons and times. In the Name of Jesus Christ, and based on His finished work, we declare that South Africa belongs to Jesus Christ, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Realign and restore South Africa to Your purposes. Let everything that has come out of sin, rebellion and agreement with darkness be brought into the light and under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. We renounce every ungodly agreement, dedication, covenant and spiritual claim made over this nation contrary to Your will, and we declare that no power of darkness has authority over the times and seasons that belong to You.
The old cycles of darkness will not determine South Africa’s future. The purposes of God will prevail. The light of Christ will overcome darkness.
We proclaim over South Africa: the acceptable year of the Lord has come. Let there be a turning toward God, a restoration of righteousness and truth, and an awakening to the presence and purposes of God.
Jesus Christ is Lord over South Africa. Jesus Christ is Lord over our times and seasons. Jesus Christ is Lord over our future.
We seal this declaration in faith, trusting not in human power, but in the finished work, authority and victory of Jesus Christ. In His mighty Name. Amen and amen.
