Kouga Dam pictures say it all. God is good!

Search “Kouga Dam” on Facebook today and you will see pictures galore of Nelson Mandela Bay’s (NMB) largest water storage dam at 92% full and expected to overflow by tomorrow. What an answer to millions of prayers by believers in this area that has faced over seven years of drought and repeated Day Zero scenarios. The Gamtoos Irrigation Board (GIB) report that at 2pm when this photo was taken, the Stuurmans River was delivering water to the 268 000 m3-capacity dam at 70 000 litres per second. According to the GIB, the Kouga Dam has overflowed 33 times since 1971 and the last time it spilled was in 2015.

This picture, from my files, is a drone shot taken during a “Let it Rain” day of prayer and thanksgiving beneath the dam wall at a time the level was at 5% and the city and region were being prepared for Day Zero (i.e. no water in the taps) in that July. About 300 people from NMB, Jeffreys Bay and the Gamtoos River valley area attended. It was just one of many days over recent years that God’s people got together at the dam, in churches, at mass events like the Jeffreys Bay Mighty Men Conference, on farms and in months-long prayer chains to ask the Lord for rain — and revival.

This remarkable photo was taken at the Jeffreys Bay Mighty Men Conference in March this year when a ring formed around the sun while thousands of believers kneeled down and personally prayed for rain at the urging of farmer-evangelist Angus Buchan who was leading the meeting. At the same time people noted a cloud shaped like a cross. At the time Buchan told Gateway News the surprising signs in the sky seemed like a display of God’s love, faithfulness and goodness and that there was a great expectation for rain to come. A friend who was at that event noted that since that time, when the dam level was in the vicinity of 10%, the water level slowly started rising. After recent good rains the level rose rapidly, increasing by 10% in one 24 hours period.

The above photo, and accompanying comment by the Gamtoos Irrigation Board on May 22 this year shows just how much we had got used to a “new normal” of extremely low water levels. This is what the GIB has to say at the time: We had to share the great news that the Kouga Dam is at 19.21% capacity today (May 22), an increase of 0.84% in the last 24 hours ? We can only hope for more ?

This picture of the Kouga Dam overflowing on a previous occasion is a preview of the glorious spectacle that God is preparing for His people in the region. All glory to Him. Nelson Mandela Bay prayer coordinator Pastor Joan Keeling told Gateway News: “We are rejoicing in the Lord!
Tomorrow is our End-of-the-Month Prayer Warriors ‘ Gathering at GAP! I can’t promise a rain dance, but there certainly will be a celebration! God has heard and answered prayer! We have not only experienced the physical rain, but we are also experiencing spiritual rain!”

She said she believes the Jesus 2023 Citywide Crusade coordinated by Pastor Jimmy Davis managed to share the Gospel with 9 000 people.

We thank the Father for His faithfulness to us, in spite of all the corruption in our city. No man can take the glory for the rain that He has sent.

What an awesome GOD. When one thinks of the complexity of nature and life, can we not praise Him continuously??? Unbelieving intellectuals where is your logical thought? You cannot explain it away by “big-bang” theories, or the theory of evolution. Can you explain spiritual happenings or gravity for that matter? GOD spoke and it happened. Ask that HE may open your eyes and spiritual senses. SHALOM
