Nelson Mandela Bay primed for 3 days of prayer, fasting for revival and restoration

The prayer pointers are ready; the fasting guidelines are posted; the enormous amount of legal and technical groundwork needed to to prepare for a motorcade through the city [see route and time schedule] on Saturday has been done; videos, banners, t-shirts, badges have been produced; and the hard-working team behind the One People One Vision Heal Our Bay campaign are excited and focused for the launch tomorrow of 3-days of prayer and fasting for Nelson Mandela Bay from August 18 to 20.

The list above does not do justice to all the prayer, sweat and teamwork that has gone into mobilising Christian churches throughout Nelson Mandela Bay to take part in the prayer and fasting campaign which is a joint initiative of the municipality and the local Church. The goal of the campaign is to unite believers in fasting and praying for God to bring revival and restoration to NMB and for many in the city to come to true salvation.

The programme is:

1. Friday night August 18:
Every congregation in NMB to gather in their own venue, to fast and pray (prayer pointers will be sent out)
Each congregational youth group to decide to either pray in their own venue or to join together in with one of the many interdenominational youth movements in the Bay. See video clip below for call by Pastor Brenton Goldman of Ebenser International

2. Saturday August19 from about 9am to 5pm
A large convoy of vehicles and an estimated 150 to 300 motorbikes to pass through every ward and approximately 17 malls in Gqeberha (P.E.), Kariega (Uitenhage) and Despatch — showing that the Church has left the building. There will be a truck with a platform from which the Gospel will be preached and tracts will be distributed.

Congregations are being asked to meet at the nearest mall to their church venue to visibly worship and pray for NMB.

3. Sunday August 20:
Church leaders are being asked to share on Esther 4:14 in their Sunday morning services.

PRAYER POINTERS FOR THE 3 DAYS OF FASTING AND PRAYER FOR NMB

Introduction:
We are fighting against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the ‘heavenly realm’.  [Eph. 6: 12]
The strongman over NMB has been identified as the spirit of division. The Word of God teaches us that we need to bind the strongman, and then we can plunder his house.  [Matthew 12: 28-29; Mark 3: 27]
 

Even the name given for this initiative reveals the reality of this fact!
We are calling for: ONE PEOPLE, ONE VISION – HEALING OUR BAY!
And so…we deal with the strongman – the spirit of division – first!


We ask the Lord to rebuke Satan. [Jude 9]

And then we bind the works, the activity, and the supporting demonic forces associated with and supporting this spirit of division in the Bay.  [Matthew 18: 18-20]

Friday Night: 18 August 2023

Let us pray prayers of repentance – for our own sins and on behalf of all the residents of Nelson Mandela Bay – from the things that separate us from one another as children of God.
Sins like: Our pride, rebellion, stubbornness, idolatry, lying, self-promotion, causing confusion, hatred, anger, bitterness, unforgiveness, sexual immorality, the shedding of innocent blood, broken covenants with God and man.

Now, declare:
John 4: 19 We love Him because He first loved us.
John 13: 34-35 A new commandment.
Roman 5: 5 The love of God has been shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit.
Psalm 133 Behold how good and how pleasant it is…..

After the time of repentance and declaration, let us pray for:

A.  Revival:

  1. Every congregation revived.
  2. For the Lord to pour out His Holy Spirit and Power on every congregation.
  3. People not to reject the moving of God’s Holy Spirit and instead to come to repentance – as He convicts of sin, righteousness and judgment to come – and to rejoice in His Presence among them.  [John 16: 8]
  4. Christians to respond to the call to fast and pray from Friday 18 August to Sunday 20 August 2023.  [Esther 4: 14]
  5. Pray for the salvation of many in the Bay during this time.  [Romans 10: 14]
  6. Pray for the motorcade visiting many shopping malls on Saturday 19 August.
  7. Pray for those sharing the Word of God from Esther 4: 14 on Sunday morning August 20 in their own congregations to be in tune with God and mightily anointed by God, as they deliver His Message clearly to the people of God.


Pray for: The unity of the Body of Christ in NMB: unity-of-purpose, as well as unity-of-relationship. [Psalm 133]

B. The Restoration of the Bay:

  1. The fixing and maintenance of the NMB Infrastructure.
  2. The healing of our society from: poverty, unemployment, inequality, corruption, violent crime, gender violence, city, church and family division, and the abuse of women and children.


C.  The Spiritual Salvation of large numbers of people in the Bay.

On Saturday morning 19 August:
Remember to also pray for the protection and success of the motorcade.

On Sunday 20 August: Thanksgiving, Praise and Worship – Psalms 149 and 150.
Pray for the sharing of Esther 4: 14 in every congregation in NMB!

How do we Fast in this situation?

The Call to Fast this time is to abstain from eating food for all three days and to only drink water!
Please note: If you do this total Fast you must drink lots of clean water.
Many — for medical reasons — are unable to participate in this kind of fast.
So, if you do have health issues, we would recommend that you do what we call a Daniel Fast.
In the Book of Daniel 1: 9-16, we see the Daniel Fast described.
It simply says that they ate vegetables and abstained from delicacies and presumably from all meat, poultry and fish.
Three key components to the Daniel Fast:
1. Only fruits and vegetables, nuts, legumes and whole grains
2. Only water or natural fruit juice for beverage
3. No sweeteners, breads, meat, eggs or dairy products

Very Important:
Remember the most important reason for Fasting is to give time to Prayer.
