Eight years after God prompted her to host a Bible Reading Marathon, Illona de Wit and her team are preparing for their 11th marathon from Wednesday October 28 to Saturday October 31 at Spirit Reign Ministries, Kariega (Uitenhage).
“We will continue declaring God’s Word over South Africa and our region until we see change in our beloved country,” said Illona.
“This will be our second marathon of the year. We held a one-day marathon on Saturday, 20 June 2026, 09h00 to 14h00. That morning, readers reserved a book of the Bible to read. One reader, Gordon Cotter, read the entire book of Psalms on his own and was deeply touched by the experience.
“It was a wonderful opportunity for families, children, and friends to share their love of God’s Word,” she said.

During the upcoming four-day marathon in Kariega, participants will read the entire Bible out aloud from Genesis 1 to Revelation 22. The Eastern Cape farming town of Kareedouw, meanwhile, is gearing up for its 5th Bible Reading Marathon from Tuesday October 13 to Saturday October 17 at the Dutch Reformed Church in Church Street
“This cherished event begins on Tuesday evening at 19:00 with a time of prayer and worship, after which the continuous Bible reading will commence. For five days, voices from across our community will join together in Scripture — a powerful reminder of unity, faith, and hope.
