Blac Chyna, now ‘Angela White’, sheds demonic baggage to follow Jesus

Neziswa Kanju looks at the transformation of a reality star and urges believers to pray for her to hold onto her newfound faith and become a powerful influencer for God

Reality TV star Blac Chyna, 34, has gone through major life changes in recent weeks and now prefers to be called by her birth name Angela White. The popular influencer shocked many when she announced on an Instagram post that she was a born again Christian and showed a video of herself getting baptized. Following her conversion on her birthday last year, she quit alcohol and joined a church. She said at the time, “I’m just going by faith. Let me just let God lead me. I have my church home that helps me along this way because you just can’t do it by yourself. I got tired of being sick and tired of the same repetitive things because obviously it was something that I wasn’t doing right. Now I’m doing the right things to the best of my ability so that I can become whole.”

Her journey to wholeness has been gradual, as she puts it, “I am taking baby steps” She has been very transparent about her transformation documenting her journey on her social media platforms. She shared the process of taking fillers from her face with her millions of fans.  She had a plastic surgery removal that included a breast and buttock reductions. The procedure took over 8 and a half hours. It kept clogging the machine. Her followers witnessed her removal of a goat headed baphomet tattoo. She removed the tattoo as a declaration; “I am releasing all negative energy that is holding me back. It’s got to come off. I’m about to have NO mark of the beast I don’t want anything negative or demonic on my body anymore, ” she says.

In December she quit her money-generating porn site Only Fans. She was the highest paid artist on the platform. She says she left the site because it was against her newfound faith and it was degrading, “God told me, you don’t need to be doing this. This is not why I put you here, to degrade yourself. It is one of those things where I did what I needed to do at that moment because of the circumstances I was in. I am just changing everything about me. People I had to cut off. Certain businesses I had to cut off. Different ways of making income I had to cut off. I had to focus on me. As I am getting older, I am trying to set a good example for my kids and hopefully inspire some people to even try it.”

Blac Chyna gained notoriety in 2010 when Drake mentioned her name in his song “Miss Me.” She was also popular for being the stunt double for Nicki Minaj in the music video for the song “Monster.” She became a star of reality shows and a major influencer. As her star was rising and she was becoming more and more famous so did the insecurities. Her first cosmetic procedure was an illegal silicon injection she had when she was 19 to enhance her beauty “because everybody was doing it” and she wanted “a perfect body that can be used sexually.” She became an exotic dancer dancing at strip clubs to earn money. This is where she got the name Blac Chyna. “Growing up my mom was an exotic dancer. We were dancing at the same time. We were dancing at different clubs.” Coming from a single parent household where she saw her own mother doing exotic dance it was understandable that she would follow that path because that is how her own mother made money.

Her father was an absent figure in her life. “I met my father when I was 14. He was never around. I lived with him my 10th grade year. I bounced from different schools, 9th and 10th grade.” This lack of presence and attention by a key important male figure in her formative years could be attributed to why she craved attention and acceptance from males. Studies show that a father’s absence in a young girl’s life affects her self-esteem and her relationships with men. In a world where there is a high rate of fatherlessness, and a lack of good role models Blac Chyna influenced many young girls to also look at their bodies as things that can be used sexually. Following her conversion, now as Angela White, she teaches her followers that the body is the temple of God. They should not take shortcuts by doing plastic surgeries, instead they must work out and go to the gym. This is a stark difference from the exotic dancer and socialite that modelled provocative clothing on an adult site just under a year ago. These days she drives every Sunday to her church that is more than an hour away.

“Thank you God! Thank God you! Thank You God Thank you God. Thank you for saving me.” These were the words she kept on repeating in a recent Instagram post. Angela cannot stop thanking God for the work that He has done in her life. She shares encouraging words with her followers to advise them to choose better than she did. She sees the scars from her cosmetic reversal as “lessons learnt.” She says now she is ready to get back to Angela.

This journey to return to her authentic self has inspired many people who know exactly how difficult it is for celebrities to leave money and fame. She says that her new journey is about faith not fame. It is about total reliance and trust in God. A question that gets asked in many of her interviews is, how is she going to make money and sustain herself and her children now that she has turned her back on the platforms and businesses that generated money based on how her body looked. She says she is not worried about tomorrow, she trusts God. 

Some of her critics believe this will be a short-lived transformation. They say it is a publicity stunt. Their argument is that she has made all the money she wants from the porn sites and will not return the money. They do not believe this is a genuine conversion. Some of this criticism is fuelled by Angela’s mother who has been making derogatory remarks on social media calling Angela a liar and a satanist.

The Christian community would do well to pray for this young lady to hold on to the faith as many young people look up to her. There are many temptations especially for someone who is a public figure. On Tiktok alone her videos have been viewed by millions of fans and the hashtag #BlacChyna has more than 770 million views. She influences how many young girls view themselves and we can only hope that these latest changes will inspire many young women to know they are beautiful just as they are.

There is drastic and obvious change to how she looks compared to when she had the fillers and the enhancements. We thank God for the great work He is doing in Angela’s life and pray that the seeds that are sown as millions view her journey of transformation will yield a harvest of a global self acceptance movement by many young girls. We do not know what the future holds for Angela White but we can be confident of this, that the One who has started the great work in her will bring it to completion and the Holy Spirit will continue to draw many to Himself for a great Harvest of souls.
